View Full Version : How does the Faroudja 1080 hold up against today's best Jim Parys 09-19-07, 01:44 AM title says it all. does it compare to the lumegen and others. oferlaor 09-19-07, 03:31 AM For what purpose? if you're checking film mode, all processors from the last few years perform similarly (deinterlacing wise, there are quite a few changes re their scaling and other processing capabilities). With regards to video mode, DCDi is OK-ish these days, but nothing to write home about. Genum, HQV, and ABT/DL all perform much better, catch more cadence conditions (albeit, some quite obscure) and comb a lot less. A good example of this is in 2:2 pulldown (Europe, computer animation) where Faroudja performs quite poorly. Scaling wise, I think 2300 is, again, OK-ish but I prefer Lumagen's scaling algorithm to it. Processing feature wise, except for the intrinsic CUE filter, it really doesn't have too much to offer these days. I still think that it's an ideal solution for DVDs like Denon and Oppo, but for a standalone processor, display or receiver, it is irrelevant. c_rex 09-20-07, 01:12 AM To confirm Ofer's input with my horribly less technical (let's call it 'hollistic') input; I've been reading about quite a few new a/v receivers because I need one. Many tout their Faroudja processing and the general feedback from folks relying on the receiver processors is by and large filled with disappointment. I suppose it depends on what you're used to and what you're expecting though. If you're watching 420 and are looking for better you probably wouldn't be disappointed. Will you get clean 1080? mmmmm.... again I only know from what I read but I think I'll pass on the Faroudja just now. |
