hey,

I'm thinking about taking the plunge and upgrading my 720 RP DLP to a ceiling mount 1080 FP. the goal is to get a 110" image on a 10'x8' wall but this would only leave 21" below the bottom of the screen & the 12+/2 is 26" tall (but only 19" wide). I know I could move it but I'd rather keep it where it is for SQ reasons.

is there any problem (sq or longevity) w/doing this? I wouldn't think so but I know those cones are aluminum and figured it couldn't hurt to run it by the collective.

thanks!

It's perfectly fine to do that. Just detach the bottom base plate.

You need to plug the holes left open when you remove the base plate, as they go all the way through into the cabinet. you will get a lot of air leakage and noise if you don't. For better aesthetics, get some black button head screws with black nylon washers to ensure a good seal.

As to SQ, some that have done this say it actually sounds better.

As far as I'm concerned, it actually looks better on its side and without the baseplate. Mine is situated so that the woofers face the wall and only gloss black is showing. This was due to replacing the silver .2 woofers with the black .3s which left an unfinished ring around the new woofers. At first I was disappointed since I wanted to have the woofers exposed, but I just turned the box around and have found that I prefer the look of the gloss black all around instead. Absolutely no loss in performance from flipping it on it's side though.
