i would like someone to give me their pros & cons of buying a plasma online -vs- brick & mortar. i can buy the 42" kuro online (newegg - authorized dealer) for less but what would be the downside of such a vendor? is it worth the extra $$$$ to buy it from bestbuy for their 30-day return policy?

are there certain co.'s (panasonic, samsung etc.) that have more plasmas in that size that have problems with burnt/stuck pixels? any advice would be appreciated.

thanx,

The downside of buying from them is that you don't have a contact that will take care of you :)

an alternative would be to talk to one of the forums sponsors (*cough* like the poster right before me who works for Invision *cough*) who could get you an excellent price quote AND great service.

I'm sure you could also discuss with him what would happen if something went wrong...

I've talked to a few sponsors here about various quotes, and was very pleased with their service levels. It's certainly worth investing an email or ph******* in.

If you buy on-line and have a dead pixel you are not covered under warranty, the on-line seller probably won't take it back and if he does will charge you $200-300 return shipping and possibly a restocking charge.

If you decide you want a larger set you will not be able to easily exchange without cost.

With a brick and motar store you usually have 30 days to return for full credit

And here is the file out of Pioneers manual. No one will tell you that it is easier to return a TV to an online dealer but the odds of dead pixels are very low less than 1%. I would worry about the $$ instead.

My recent experience:
- bought a 5080 and peerless mount from Roman
- I have no dead or stuck pixels
- delivery was timely and efficient
- price and service were great

I've also bought a projector, cables, and a custom screen from other sponsors in the past.

I've had less gratifying and more frustrating experiences buying Dora the Explorer DVDs for my daughter at BB.

Of course, you mileage may vary...but I am one happy camper right now.

why is p-h-o-n-e-c-a-l-l edited out? It's not edited out, only the portion that is missing is edited out because it happens to be the URL of an online retailer, and direct links to retailers are not allowed. I'm sure the system automatically deleted it, not realizing it was part of a legitimate word :)

I say just purchase from Roman. He'll hook you up and take care of you.

What if you are one of the 1%? Will you replace at no charge? Will you eat the shipping costs?

You know I am not new at this. The answer is ..... case by case :)

Understood. You have a great reputation on this board based upon fair dealings. For me it's worth spending a few extra bucks to have the protection of sending the TV back without paying hundreds of dollars and getting involved in a dispute. Others may only be concerned with dollars. I just think it's fair to present both sides and uncover all issues because you are only going to address the ones that favor your case and ignore the others :)

yeah i hear what you are saying - "a few extra bucks" - but in this case we are talking $700 more. roman's option seems better & better the more i think about it.
