I have two 12in pioneer subs 800watt each hooked up to a 1600watt amp with 8guage wiring kit. I hooked it all up myself and it worked for about a month when all of a sudden they stopped playing and the protection light came on. I couldnt figure out the problem forever and just decided hey maybe i need a new fuse. I put a new one in and it worked for about 10 minutes then the protection light came on. Now the only way it works is if i let the amp sit for a while and i guess resets itself and then i turn the bass way down on the amp and it works but the secound i turn it up they just turn off. I rode around today with my subs playing as low as they could and they didnt even make it threw a song. I just dont understand what happened because they worked fine for the longest time.

If anyone could help me out or give me any ideas of whats wrong with this dam thing i would realy appriciate it

It sounds like something has happened to your amplifier. However, before looking at that, make sure to check every single power and line connection that touches the amplifier. Make sure there are no loose speaker wires, make sure the power wire is in tight, and be sure that there are no pieces of copper sticking out that might be grounding against the amplifier/car/subwoofer. Also check that your cables haven't worn through.

For what it's worth, this is a forum for Home Theater Subwoofer applications, not for mobile, like what you're having a problem with. You're unlikely to get much of a response here, and your post may be deleted or moved at the discretion of a Moderator.

It sounds like you have a short. These are pretty common in car applications. Also check to see if any outside moisture is getting in to your wiring. If you still have problems and you can't find a solution I would bring it to a qualified 12 volt tech, not the kind you find at Circuit City or Best Buy.

What's the reccomened power and Ohm rating of your speakers?

What's the RMS power rating of your amp, and what Ohm ratings does it support?

Yea i think it might be my amplifier. I hooked my amp and subs up in my buddies car and it still didnt work. Its either my amp or i have a bad connection with the subs
