Yeah, TVA is a Québec distributor, they don't distribute in Canada in General, Since the French movies are for the Quebec population that are majority French, they don't bother adding English Sub, even tought they are english people here..
But BEWARE, TVA INTL DVD RELEASE ARE GOD AWFUL so i'am not that exhited to see them, even tought i'am from there. They're copy of Le Pacte des Loups (NTSC) 3 disc set is AWFUL, the USA version was way more impressive..
Amelie.... I love this film!!
Me too! In fact it's my favorite foreign film. Too bad it may not include English subs. That would suck the big one so to speak.
JeffNebraska 09-19-07, 09:25 PM Amelie.... I love this film!!

What studio is that? Will it be BR exclu?

It's TVA INTL in Quebec, they Author their own disc. It appear they are BluRay Exclusive from the News state that they will release on BluRay... off source i'll keep an eye out there for you guys, i'am pretty sure others will do the same here
bboisvert 09-19-07, 09:50 PM C.R.A.Z.Y. is actually a great, little-seen gem. I'd definitely recommend people check it out (at least as a rental).

+1. I love this movie.
SheepFactory 09-19-07, 11:40 PM OMG!!!!
This is THE best news I heard since I got my ps3. Amelie is my favorite film and I can only imagine how incredible it will look on blu ray.
invadergir 09-20-07, 01:39 AM Amelie is a must buy for me.
mdc3000 09-20-07, 11:23 AM well, TVA's quality for releases has been subpar for dvd IMO, so I'll have to wait and hear what reviews have to say for sure....but Amelie and The Pianist would be great.
Brad1963 09-20-07, 11:45 AM AMELIE is one of my top 5 all time favorite films. Definate purchase for me.
TVA's DVD edition of Amelie does not have English subtitles, and the Blu-ray will almost certainly not either. TVA only has distribution rights to the movie in French-speaking Canada. It's distributed by Alliance Atlantis in the English-speaking provinces. TVA is contractually prohibited from including English subtitles.

AARRGGHH!!! O' Canada :(
sharkshark 09-20-07, 03:02 PM three great films, and, as Josh has pointed out from the -basically- Canadian equivalent city of Boston, the odds of English subs are small as Alliance has exclusive English Canadian distribution to these films (our attempt at having a Miramax equivalent...They made all their money of late off of CSI, funilly enough...) There was a fancy SD box set of Amelie that was sans-soustitres as well...
Still, it'd be nice to be surprised...
Audrey Tautou (Pretty Dirty Things, Amelie) is my favorite foreign actress. I hope she doesn't come over here and get Americanized.

Too late. She was pretty dreadful in The DaVinci Code.
SXRDMan 09-21-07, 01:02 PM C.R.A.Z.Y is a great film and would look great on BD, with a good transfer. I have been looking forward to this title for a while. Depends on the subtitle situation.

I knew it, I knew it. Whyyyyyyyyyy
Looks like the FS has it:

Megalith 09-07-08, 06:28 PM Pathetic sound mixes.
I won't buy this, even though I'm a sucker for her hair.
Ghostface1701 09-07-08, 09:57 PM No English subs, and a 1080i picture. Definite pass, and a prayer for a proper release from the US or UK distributor.
eapleitez 09-08-08, 10:18 AM The Pianist will eventually come out from Universal. I'd recommend waiting for that one, as the HD DVD is pretty much flawless.

I've held out on buying this for a long time now on HD-DVD, while waiting for the BD. hmrz.

There was a brief while earlier this spring where Amazon was selling the HD DVD for $9.95, so I went ahead and grabbed that (that was my final HD DVD purchase). It was absolutely worth it for the TrueHD soundtrack. Of course, I'll pick it up again on BD eventually. Can't wait for a proper release of Amelie, either.
SC0TLANDF0REVER 09-09-08, 11:25 AM I'll wait until the US distributor releases Amelie.
I agree that it will look *amazing* in 1080p!
Is there any news of a USA Blu-ray release of Amelie with ENGLISH subtitles?
I have heard of four different versions of this Blu-ray thus far: The first was the Canadian release which was the companies first attempt at Blu-ray and the results were pretty awful + no English subtitles. Then I heard there was a Japanese Amelie Blu-ray, then a French Blu-ray release, now I hear there is an Australian BD release coming in November.
I guess we'll have to wait until Mirimax gives it the Blu treatment here in the US. Man, I cannot WAIT! Does anybody know different? Thank you.
the Canadain blu-rays have been very disapointing. often 1080i, little to ne extras. and no subs. I'm comon atleast give me french subs. that seems to be a common practice in france as well to not even include french subs. what's up with that...
I guess we'll just have to wait until Miramax gets around to it. You'd think it (Amelie) would be one of the first titles they'd transfer to Blu
Better yet, I bet Criterion eventually issues "Amelie" on Blu-ray.
Man, I'm seriously ready to learn how to make my own Blu-rays just to get a proper Amelie on BD.
Anyone know how to see up and coming Blu releases from Criterion?
I'm a fan of Amelie - but why $35.99 on Amazon!!?
http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Amelie-Blu-ray/8033/
16x9enhanced 11-05-09, 12:59 PM well the price is because it is an import, but
I was also wondering which version this is.
I noticed this link at dvdbeaver the other day, but they had no info regarding where this is from.
the distributor says Icon--wherever they are from.
and why it has the US flag next to the amazon link if it is known to be an import.
seems like it should have the country of origin flag as amazon is simply selling this version that came out elsewhere.
Kris Deering 11-05-09, 01:12 PM That is the Australian version. You can order it from Australian retailers for less than that shipped to the US.
16x9enhanced 11-05-09, 03:44 PM thanks for the info.
can you comment on this version--i.e., does it avoid the problems of the other versions that have come out?

It was 27.99...good thing I ordered then. Damn.
mikenike 11-05-09, 05:23 PM Oooh, Amélie! "Le trois Septembre 1974..."
Cannot wait for that one and is easily a top-dollar movie I'd get on day one.
Thanks for the replies. At $35.99 it comes in too high for me (even for an import) plus I'm already maxing out on November pre-orders. I guess I'll end up waiting for some reviews before committing to this title, although Suntory_Times at Blu-ray.com claims:
Just picked up and checked my copy and my projector says it's indeed 1080p, and has dts hdma (lossless) sound. It also says it is playable in all regions (region a, b and c). So anyone in America should be able to play it. I've had a quick flick through and the transfer looks stunning from what I have seen, though the subtitles are not all in picture, there one line in picture, one line out of picture. Which is an annoyance. Otherwise, a very descent release that can be had for $25 Australian dollars. Definitely worth picking up.
HopOnRocks 07-27-10, 11:59 PM So I noticed at Futureshop (Canadian store, owned by Best Buy) that they now carry Amelie on Blu-Ray again. I remember before that the other version was only 1080i and had no English subtitles.
Now when I was in the store today I looked at the casing and it claims:
2.35:1, 1080p video, English subs.
This Blu-ray was apparently released just last week, the same day City of God came out.
I was wondering has anyone bought this copy of Amelie yet? Is it actually 1080p with English subs?
Here is the link to Futureshop's listing for the movie. It's only $20.99 Canadian. The first copy was originally $27.99 Canadian.

Yes, the specs are accurate. And unlike other bare-bones releases from Alliance, this one actually retains the extra features from the two-disc dvd release.
You'll also find Amelie and City of God cheaper at HMV. I found both there for $14.99.:)

Thanks for the heads up. :)
