hey guys, I have a very quick question/concern that I was wondering if anyone could help answer ;)

I would very much like to see a RS-1 or a new Sony VW60 in my current theater, it is simply out of the question for me to be able to just up and purchase one of these

does anyone know if there are any places that rent or loan PJ's for a few days? I would love to do a comparison face/off with my beloved NEC 1352 CRT projector and would be glad to post that here on the AVS ;)

I have found that going and viewing stuff like this in demo setups and displays is not all that impressive or definitive, to say the least of which not easy for me to do having to travel over 3 hours just to get to local locations from my area out in the sticks :(

if anyone has any ideas for me I would be all ears and much appreciative:)

thanks a bunch for the help guys

Your best chance to do so is to go through a custom integrator and not a retail store. Usually this will yield better opportunities like this because the owner usually will be involved in the decision and not someone following a procedure. You may have to plop down at least 50% and sometimes 100% on these units (just use a credit card which you won't have to pay a dime as long as you return them before a billing cycle) before they will let you take them out of the door. Only problem doing so is you need to find the right dealer who keeps stock on these items (not too many that do so).

Hi Gary,

If you can get an AVS or other enthusiast to bring a projector for a comparison that would be the best bet. If we lived closer I would bring my RS-1.

How long do you need it for to demo?

thanks for all the replies guys, appreciate the help and offers

Jason, 2 or 3 days max if that, just enough time to see what I think and get a comparison review up that I have been talking about lately here and there

thanks again guys, AVS Forum is the best ;)

Coming from CRT you probably want the highest CR projector, is the RS2 not in your price range or do you not want to wait any longer?

if anyone had to guess or just take a stab(don't want anyone to put theirself out there) what would the RS2 be from say AVS?

the VW60 will more likely be in my range alot more, but you never know... ;)

I would guess the price will be somewhere between 6k-7.2k for an RS2 once it's out. I think they will ask somewhat more than they did for an RS1

I think it will be between 6.10647k and 7.256936k. :D

Seriously, I have NO idea where it will be. It all falls on JVC right now.

When AVS does there trade up program put me on the list of the used RS1 owners and read how well you like your RS2's. :D

any other tips or ideas guys?

I possibly have a line on getting to finally see the Pearl(VW60) in my HT, or should I say review, hopefully that works out and I can whip out a good review with a huge basis on the vs. CRT side of things ;)

that still leaves the RS1 to see though :)

Gary, what exactly do you wish to accomplish? Bigger brighter image? Aside from that, what benefit do you seek? CMRA

C, I am not looking for a brighter image, nor a better image because what I have currently gives me that, my NEC 1352LC CRT is amazing

what I am looking for is ease of use for both me and the family when I am not around, I have been using CRT PJ's for many many years and I am just looking for something easier that can match the PQ of my CRT

Exactly the same reason I jumped ship, CRT was simply too much hassle for all concerned in the Butler household. Don't get me wrong I loved CRT when I had it but digital was so much easier to install, use and maintain. HOWEVER! I wasn't satisfied with the contrast / black level that digital produced (this was about 18 months ago) and ditched it quite quickly, not had a pj since. I'm afraid I have both feet squarely in the 'black level is all' camp and can't quite bring myself to 'enjoy' digital quite as much as crt without those deep inky blacks.

VERY satisfied with the increase in (percieved) sharpness and brightness though.

Flash forward to today and things are very much looking up with the new Sonys and JVC's, such that my interest has been ignited once again.

I'll be very interested in your review Gary as I'm sure will others.

Paul, appreciate the comments, exactly my thoughts

my brother and mother are both huge movie fans and would love to enjoy my HT even though I am not around to make sure the CRT is handled correctly with love and care, warm-up, shutdown, monitoring hushbox fans, etc., another issue that they both like to view 4:3 classics and on my 2.35:1 scope setup with my CRT using that little phosphur surface can burn in and destroy a couple tubes in a short time

another issue is that I used to be a hardcore gamer and got out of it for 3 or 4 years, I recently got a Xbox 360 Elite and I am now obsessed :p , obviously I don't want to sit and play it for hours on end on my CRT, so yet again more digital benefits

CRT's whether anyone wants to admit it are a hassle, but a hassle that is very worth it IMHO

Paul I hope I can get to do the review and things work out :)

You want something for family that can approach CRT performance?!:)
Get them a cheapo AW15 and They all will be happy.

Having a dpj next to CRT is the best way as you get to enjoy more and worry less about running down your CRT. Get the VW60 for far less and it is here already. Next year something better will be here.
You really don't need the JVC if keeping the XG otherwise might be a better choice than the Sony.

that is also a good idea Cas ;) one that I had thought of but is a little more expensive :(

Well an AW15 will cost you ~$1,100 out of pocket. A RS1 will cost ~$5K and you will get max $1,500 if very lucky for your 1352. That is ~$3,500 out of pocket.

Is this the Price is Right? I bid $1.
