View Full Version : It's that time of year again, NBA 2k or Live?

This year, I think Live 08 will be pretty fun and it looks promising. I've played the demo a few times. 2k is outstanding as usual, but I loved live from 2005 and since then they haven't put out a good game. 2k has killed them the last few years, I think Live 08 will be the game I buy, if not both. If you had to pick one, which is it?

For me if it's just one, Live.

Wow, I'm surprised that Live is leading so far. I know that 2k has been better the last few years and I thought it would be voted for more. Thanks for the votes! Keep em coming!

After playing the demo to Live and seeing the improvments over the last 2 this will be my pick once again.

Live is definitely improved over last year (going by the demos). However, the animation and overall depth of 2k has always been difficult for Live to match up with (much more important than graphics). This is definitely a valid debate this year, when last year was no contest (although hardcore EA fanboys vehemently defended live).

i am as anti-ea as the next guy, but i really think i will go with live this year as i have grown frustrated with 2K since the next-gen games have come out. ea may not solve the problem but its worth a shot.

I prefer 2k's gameplay over Live's.Live has improved over last year, but that's not saying much.

Thats just blasphemy.

I think 2k8 has better gameplay based on the demo. I don't know why people were saying the graphics were worse then 2k7, the player models look a tad better then last year.

Doesn't Live 08 have the FIBA teams? Will you'll be able to have a FIBA team play against N.B.A. teams or will they be seperate game modes? Because I, for one, can't wait to play a Memphis Grizzlies vs. Angola game (....?...).

Seriously though, it sounds like Live might be pretty good. Either way, I'm going to rent them both first.

I liked 2K7 more last year but will switch back to Live based on the demo's.

The Grizz **might** have a chance against Angola.

Go Cavs!

The demo allowed me to play Spurs vs. Spain but not Spurs vs. France. I assume this is because it won't allow for two Tony Parkers on the screen at once.

I've been 2k from day one and this year I'm finally going Live on the basis of the demos. 2k is still closer to real basketball, but it is feeling so mechanical and lacking in flow that it feels too much like work at times and not enough like a game.

I am as hardcore as basketball fans get. I had a friggin' Jorge Garbajosa Raptors jersey before he had even played a minute because I have been callign him the Spanish Charles Oakley for years.

Basketball games have started to bore me in recent history the way baseball games have (and i used to love them too). To me that Live demo was realistic enough (though not as much as 2K), but way more fun, with a much better flow to the game.

And 2K sports, you are a huge company, invest some money in a new graphics engine. C'mon. I have issues with EA, but 2K actually seems worse with their sports franchises for making minimal improvements or only making improvements to things outside of the actual matches.

If you only play games based on pretty/realistic graphics then you're going to be let down 99% of the time. Stick to CGI Game trailers, me I'll go w/ actual gameplay over just eye candy graphics, in the long run, that'll win everytime.

Did you read my whole post, or did you just look for the buzz words? Graphics have nothing to do with my reasoning to pick Live over 2k for the first time this year.

Which one has the better referee bribe system?

Can't be a true NBA sim without referee bribes.

Great post! What a refreshing break from all of the juvenile fanboy banter that takes place these days.

Played them both and 2K8 wins it hands down. It just takes it to another level all together. Sorry fellas I know you want Live to go back to its glory days on PS1, but they just don't have what it takes anymore.

2k all the way, play the demos and it should be clear which one you want. For me is 2k

Its about the game play with this series! This game rocks and don't tell me you don't enjoy being beaten.
