If your flat panel LCD doesn't have a headphone jack you might want to do what I did.
At Amazon I ordered a 10 foot audio cable that connects to your LCD's left-right audio out. You plug your headphones into the cable and it works fine.
On my Sharp LCD you use your remote audio control to lower the speaker volume but the volume on the headset remains the same. Its at a satisfacory level for me and I have slight hearing loss but you cannot adjust the volume higher on the phones unless your phones have a volume control of their own in which case you can raise the volume a bit. If you really like loud on your phones this may not be for you. It does work for me and I am quite satisfied with it.
At Amazon order the Hosa CFR-210 stereo female mini to 2 RCA male plugs 10 ft. It runs about $10.00.
