New Line Home Entertainment has announced that they will be bringing the Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan action/comedy hit 'Rush Hour 3' to Blu-ray on December 26th (a Wednesday release - Tuesday is Christmas). The film will be exclusive to Blu-ray until the HD DVD is released sometime next year. No specs have been announced at this time.

Cool but need the first two. Also how nice would it be to get lord of the rings on blu-ray first then much later on hddvd ? !

New Line needs to release L.O.T.R. Rush Hour is cool but give me L.O.T.R. Maybe this is a start? NewLine hasn't released any movies on either HD format, has it?

New Line is only BD timed exclusive for new titles. They can distribute on both formats with catalog titles whenever they want.

Apart from Blu-dot com there are no other media outlets carring this story. It says "posted by Josh". Is that, Beatboy?

I thought NEW LINE only released titles that need region coding on Blu-ray first. It would be hard to release HD DVD versions of films that still need to have a theatrical run in other places.

If you haven't seen the 3rd one yet, I'd advise you to rent it first. I love the first two Rush Hour movies but the third one was a total piece of crap. It is literally the first movie in years that I felt like walking out of. Just a horrible story, horrible script and funniest parts (of which there are very few) were all shown in the trailer.

I think there is something that everyone is not seeing. A timed exclusive is a big deal in my opinion. We will see what happens. I saw this in the theatre and I thought this movie was as good as first to and Chris Tucker was hilarious.

New Line is apparently planning a next gen release for 'Rush Hour 3,' with the Blu-ray expected just after Christmas, and the HD DVD to follow sometime in 2008.

Although it was critically reviled, the third film in the Jackie Chan-Chris Tucker franchise has grossed $133 million in the five weeks since its theatrical release in early August.

Now, according to information published by Home Media Magazine, New Line is planning a next-gen release for the film, with the Blu-ray edition hitting stores on December 26, day-and-date with the standard-def DVD (a rare Wednesday street date).

The second next-gen title to surface from dual-format supporting studio New Line, like 'Hairspray' before it, The HD DVD version of 'Rush Hour' will hit stores sometime after the Blu-ray. (As part of its initial announcement for 'Hairspray,' the studio said that region-coding concerns would prevent it from immediately releasing many of its early titles on HD DVD, but it promised they would see release sometime in early 2008.)

Although New Line has yet to issue a press release with specs, according to Home Media Magazine, the 2-disc platinum edition DVD is set to include audio commentary, deleted scenes and a featurette. We can only assume those features will find their way to the next-gen releases as well.

Both the Blu-ray and the forthcoming HD DVD editions are listed with a $39.99 list price. We'll let you know when more information on this title comes in.

In the meantime, we've added preliminary listings for 'Rush Hour 3' to our Blu-ray release schedule (under December 26, 2007), and our HD DVD release schedule (under "release dates pending").

We've also set up decided threads for New Line's latest in our forums area -- click the following links to discuss either the Blu-ray release of 'Rush Hour 3' or the HD DVD edition of 'Rush Hour 3.'

Maybe it's region-coding related as some have speculated.

It is because of region coding and it isn't speculation -- New Line has said outright that new release titles will be delayed on HD DVD because of this.

Would be nicer if it were all three films but I'm happy to buy just RH3 nevertheless.

As much as I want to see this, I'll rent it. I would rather wait for a trilogy box set, provided I even like the third one enough to buy the box.

'Rush Hour 3' will be presented in widescreen 2.35:1 1080p video and offer Dolby Digital 5.1 EX and 6.1 DTS-ES audio options. Unless a last-minute change is made, do not expect to find lossless audio on this release.

Disappointing specs for such a high profile release. I will rent as well. I loved the first 2 but this one didn't seem to have the same magic in the trailers I saw...crtically not well received, and box office was well below expectations as well.

I don't really mind as long as the bitrate exceedes that of the standard DVD (DTS at 1.5 mbps would be nice).

No lossless... no sale!! Even if it was an awesome film. It probably was not, but DVD quality sound is not what we're looking for New Line!!

Oh shiet! Talk about starting on the wrong foot here.

Warner apparently has spread their wing over New Line on this new HD scenario. Which is really bad, since NL seemed to work freely on their DVDs.

Haven't these guys learned anything yet, watching the maket for so long now before releasing.

No lossless audio = no sale for me too
