From Blu-Ray.com (http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=528) and Video Business.com (http://www.videobusiness.com/article/CA6480763.html):

First Look Studios has announced that they will bring 'King of California' and 'The Amateurs' to Blu-ray. 'King of California' - which is set to be released January 29th - stars Michael Douglas as a father who, after leaving a mental institution, tries to convince his daughter that there is Spanish gold burried in suburbia. 'The Amateurs' (also known as 'The Moguls') stars Jeff Bridges and is set to hit store shelves February 12th.

It is refreshing to see a few "non-blockbusters" coming to Blu-ray. :)

Impressive considering First Look has only released to HD DVD in the past...

This is only a few weeks away. Good to see small films embracing BD. KoC went from no distributor to being distributed on BD. Cool.

What other titles does First Look have?

Watched King Of California today....the PQ was quite stellar for a low budget film. I was very impressed. AVC encode was near flawless. AQ was a little disappointing. Just a Warners style DD+ track at 640 kbps and a DTS track at 768 kbps. Not that the audio track would have benefited much from a lossy track but they are nice to have. This was a blind buy for me and I really enjoyed the movie plus its a nice bonus when such blind buys have beautiful transfers.

Are you sure its a DD+ track and not just a standard Dolby Digital track? If so it would be the first blu-ray release with the DD+ codec.

The menu selection states Dolby Digital Plus & the PS3 readout says its 640 kbps

Interesting. Thanks.

Mislabeled then. Only a 6.1 or 7.1 DD lossy track is considered Dolby Digital Plus via the Blu-ray specs.

Too bad they can't get a lossless encoder.
