View Full Version : What's the exchange rate of MS points to US $$$? And what XBLA games should I buy?
bkchurch 09-21-07, 05:10 PM Just curious because I just got the 1600 MS points for $5 for pre-ordering Halo 3 through BB but I won't be able to get on line and use em till the next time I go home (college internet sucks). I heard it's something like 100 MS points equal $1.20 or something. Also how many points do XBLA games usually cost?
Also what XBLA games should I buy with my points? I know I want Geometry Wars but I'm not sure what else I should get. I'm not really into the re-made classic arcade games because even the ones I really love can't hold my interest for more than 15 minutes. But still I want something that I'm not just gonna play once, beat in a weekend (or worse a day) and never come back to again, I need good replay value.
Edit: I may not have the points for any more suggestions lol, I just saw on the X-Box website that Alien Hominid and the TMNT 1989 Arcade Game are on there, I'll definitely be picking those up.
400pts = $5
I try not to pay that, though. I also got the 1600 pts for $5 deal, and I have gotten 25% off deals and 2 for 1 deals in the past. I stock up when I see really good deals come along.
Chevron07 09-21-07, 05:26 PM Zuma - This chicks dig this one.
Doom - Retro!
Bomberman Live - Just downright fun.
Check out mspconverter.com for any amount you need. The arcade games we play most are Geometry Wars, Uno, and Zuma.

O crap I forgot Rez and Ikaruga are coming to the Arcade... hmm I may have to go stock up on points. I saw a 4000 point card at Sears (no I don't shop for games in Sears, I had to walk through to get out of the mall and happened to spot it) for $20. I'm pretty sure they just screwed up though and probably won't sell it for that but I'll check into it tomorrow.
I'd put my credit card on there but after all the Live accounts that got hacked I'm a little paranoid about that.
darklordjames 09-21-07, 08:42 PM Geometry Wars is a must have. I had alot of fun with Cloning Clyde for 2 days. Outpost Kaloki X is also good for a couple days of fun. The Prince Of Persia remake is amazing. Super-mega hard, but amazing. Space Giraffe is bizzare. Luxor is probably my favorite puzzle game.
Red Cell 09-21-07, 08:47 PM DooM
StreetFighter II

The PoP remake intrigued me but after trying to play the original PoP after unlocking it in the Sand of Time I can tell you I'd end up breaking my controller, I know the game is old but the controls really suck.
Save the points for Halo maps in the future.
NickG1215 09-21-07, 10:21 PM pick up Aeris Wing since its free (hopefully its still there)
i picked up Uno and Geo. Wars and i loved both. i know that sf2 was very hard for me to play due to the terrible d-pad on the 360 controller, but you can try the demo to see if it bothers you as much as it bothered me. if you do like it though, i would suggest waiting on super street fighter 2 hd remix which looks fantastic imo.

NoThru22 09-21-07, 11:05 PM I've rarely had as much fun as playing Carcassone and Catan and it's alarming to see how many people never even tried the demos.

If I'm not mistaken those are multiplayer games right? Adaptations of some old tabletop games. I'd love to check those out but I know none of my friends would be interested and I can't access XBL in my dorm because the connection sucks.
I may check out SF2 but I fighting games aren't really my thing and I've always sucked at SF :(.
I may grab Zuma however, I played a trial version a couple years ago and remember enjoying it.
I may look into Doom as well but I honestly think it would be cheaper to find a copy of the Doom 3 Collectors Edition on eBay and get Doom, Doom 2, and Doom 3 all in one shiny little package.

They have decent enough AI in single-player mode so, no, you do *not* need to go online to play them. And they are very good.
Ditto for UNO, Bejeweled, Jewel Quest, etc.
Cloning Clyde is an Original "old-school" levels-and-ladders game that is lots of fun. Aegis Wing is a classic-style side-scrolling shooter (and free); there's pinball, chess, Othello, Solitaire, minigolf, Astropop, Billiards, backgammon, RoboBlitz (built off Unreal3, believe it or not) and hordes of classics from PacMan and Centipede to Marathon (a Halo precursor from the Mac era at Bungie) and Castlevania.
Better yet, why not use the automatic "download all" setting for Arcade and try out the demos. Those you don't like, you delete.
Betcha get at least a weekful of free gaming out of the deal.
Everybody has their own favorites; check the demos and see which are yours...
There's only 90 so far. ;-)

I'll probably do that, actually. Cloning Clyde and Roboblitz look cool (The Clyde demo came on my 360 and it was pretty fun) but they don't seem like they'd give me a lot of reason to come back to them. I'd definitely pick up Marathon but I downloaded them free and legally on my Macbook Pro :D.
I'll grab Aegis Wing if not for the simple fact that it's free.
I have Castelvania on my PS1 (a true classic and honestly the only Castlevania game I've ever played/owned).
Anyway thanks for the suggestions guys I should be broke soon. :D

Just like the rest of us.
Just make sure you scrounge up enough for Mass Effect by november. Skiiping the odd meal here and there ought to do the trick.:D

Haha, too bad I have a pre-paid meal plan . Anyway I just realized I have $300 left for the semester, I really hope I get a job next semester because there's too many games I want coming out .
NoThru22 09-24-07, 09:21 AM Yeah I hardly play Catan or Carcassone online and I still love them. I also like: Pinball, Castlevania, Prince of Persia, Worms, Bomberman, Boom Boom Rocket, Uno, Bankshot Billiards, Puzzle Fighter, and Geometry Wars.
In fact, get Worms and Bomberman. Those are worth $30 and they only cost $10.
Sometimes I play more arcade than disc based games!
I really don't like many of the "classic" games. They're not enhanced any more than a decent emulator can do for you.
But most importantly, download all the demos. Even some stinky games have fifteen minutes of free fun.
