Disney's Sleeping Beauty Blu-ray out before 08!

While attending Disney's Magical Blu-ray Tour in Seattle, PSU had the chance to talk with some representatives about upcoming Disney Blu-ray titles. One of the titles being Sleeping Beauty.

I wouldn't count on it. More than likely they meant before Christmas of '08.

Until you hear official confirmation from Disney, I would file this under rumor/speculation. Disney already annonced all their movies till the end of the year. Before Xmas 2008 is more likely.

I talked with him and he was sure it was before the end of 07. Disney is doing this tour to show off all their upcoming titles and they are traveling to all 18 major cities and will also be at CES. They also said that there will be a major showing at CES in January.

Disney has had this planned for years as a Platinum Edition DVD release in October 2008. That's when the BD will come out.

I was in the Disney store at the Galleria shopping mall in downtown Houston asking about the Disney Blu-ray tour that was due on the 17th of December. He looked at me like I had lobsters crawling out of my ears. Said he had not heard about it.

ABC/Disney has already run their cleaned up print of Sleeping Beauty in 720p a few years back and it was beautiful, a masterpiece in pastels. You really had to see it to understand. For however good it looked in 720p, I can only imagine how much better the 1080p version will be.

Wasn't it filmed in Technorama ... a horizontal 35mm format ... then released in 70mm. Probably not a lot of grain there. T'was a fine process. Yeah ... Technorama 70.

I've seen Sleeping Beauty in 70mm and it's absolutely gorgeous. It should be an utterly amazing Blu-ray.

I talked with Disney again today and it turns out that we were misinformed. Disney has no plans yet to bring Sleeping Beauty to Blu-ray this year. The title is being made for Blu-ray but no release date has yet been announced.

At this point we are positive Weinstein is HD DVD exclusive, so it will not be coming to Blu-ray. Until that changes, its all rumors.

Granted a lot of it's subjective, but could the people that are big Disneyheads and have watched all of their classic animated movies a lot and recently (assuming because they have kids ;) ) rank some or most or all of their animated movies in terms of the quality of the animation and artwork? Not stylistically, but just on the overall quality of the art and animation. I'd like to know which ones I should get most excited for, when it comes to some of the best animation ever created, and my memory of watching them as a little kid isn't much to go on.
