hello everyone,
hoping someone here can point me in the right direction. i currently have just basic cable with a panasonic 42 plasma that has tvguide built in. i guess my question is that is there any standalone HD DVR's out there that i can use to record programming either using the tvguide or perhaps just programming it via time/date much like the old VCR's used to do?

thanks in advance!

I looked around for something like that too.. Chances are, the answer will be something like "build a DVR HTPC" ..

I've got an HTPC too, but for something like TV which everyone in the house watches, its got to be much easier to use.. Had to bite the bullet and buy a Tivo HD for 250 bucks + 300 bucks sub..

Quite happy with it.

thanks in advance! There's the Sony DHG-HDD500/250 and the LG 3410a. Both use TV Guide on Screen.

They are not being manufactured anymore, but you may be able to find one used on ebay or elsewhere.

In fact, one or two people in the 3410a thread here are selling their LG's, as they finally caved in and got a TiVoHD.

There are also D-VHS decks which use videotape and record in HD.
