so for hdmi cables under 15 feet or so there is no difference? (as long as its not really low quality)? So do I even need to bother with hdmi 1.3a cables? or is the cheap 28 gauge 6 feet/10 feet one just as good (or some say better since they are not as stiff). I will be buying several hdmi cables from 6-10 feet and was making sure as my new tv will be 1080p and has hdmi 1.3

Buy a decent quality cable and don't worry about it. www.monoprice.com and www.bluejeanscable.com have great quality cables at reasonable prices.

I've been asking the same question on a 10 meter size. My installer wants me to go with a $300+ Kimber Kable.

depends. is it going to be installed in a wall? if so, go with the highest quality, category 2 cable you can and future proof your installation. there are no such things as an HDMI 1.3a cable. only category 1 and category 2

Understood. But many are claiming to be 1.3a compliant. I suppose category 2 is exactly that. For some odd reason Kimber really doesn't advertise any of this leaving me to wonder about the their cable. I think $300 is far too much for a cable like this and most of the feedback on this forum seems to indicate that I can get what I need out of a monoprice or bluejeans cable at a far lesser price.

I'm sure the Kimber cable will meet your needs too as they make nice cables, but at a very high price. Bluejeans makes VERY nice cables and they publish all the specs for their cables. I doubt you'll find a better made cable out there, especially considering the price.

Definately don't skimp on in wall installations. You should future proof now and save yourself a headache down the road. What happens when products start coming out that exceed the capabilities of today's HDMI? I'm sure you won't want to rip open your walls to replace all of your cabling. BJC do make quality cables. For shorter runs I prefer TendonUSA (http://www.tendonusa.com). They're quality cables that don't hurt the wallet.

Thanks for the link to Monster's marketing material. My take away from reading this:

Monster is saying that paying more is for 'future proofing'. So say I pay $6 for my monoprice cable versus $300 for their Ultra cable. It seems like when my $6 cable isn't able to perform one day...I could go back out to Monoprice and pay some $32 for a Monoprice 22 gauge.

true.

Plus "future proof" when it comes to HDMI is just a guess. Its possible we will never see "Deep Color" or what ever its called as a standard.

Blue Jeans all the way IMO.

This from Monster Cable:

Lest not post a quote from a company known for HUGE markups and is known to sell BS all the time.

Monster sells overpriced products that do work, no need to say anything else about them.

bluejean or monoprice is the only way to go for the consumer to beat the sharks!

My installer wants me to go with a $300+ Kimber Kable.

Your installer is trying to make money, period! They know about bluejean and monoprice and they know there is NO difference between quality products. Also remember they dont benefit from selling monoprice products, they do benefit from selling the extremely high price stuff!!

btw, if you want to really future proof yourself run cat5e (or cat6) anywhere and everywhere!! That is the only true future proof plan.

I am so glad I found Monoprice through these forums. I bought my HDMI from Fry's because I was having it delivered and thought I would save the effort of rewiring after delivery. Then I find Monoprice thru postings and figure I give it a shot and read on...and discovered I needed another hdmi for my later purchased dvd player.

I get my Monoprice cables that I paid $5 each for a 28 gauge...and find that it is better quality than the Fry store bought cable where I paid $25 for one. Of course...I went ahead and returned the initial cable back to Fry's.

Looking further into the specs....the cable I have is something like HMDI 1.2a compliant. Seems like it works just fine. If it doesn't...I surely will go back to buy a 'future' developed cable which will work. Besides...monoprice has a 21 day return policy!

My recommendation is this. Purchase a cheapy $5 cable with the ability to return in 21 days. If it doesn't work...go ahead and return the product...and pay the $21 for the 24 gauge and save the $180 that would be spent on the Monster Ultras.
