If someone could help me I would be greatly thankful. I recently bought a 360 and am trying to connect it to my computer in order to play music on the 360. I am using a wired router and have downloaded Windows Media Player 11. The internet goes into a cable modem than into a router. from there one cord goes into the 360 (and live works fine) and one goes into my computer (and the internet works fine). when i go into WMP 11 and go to the media sharing option the 360 does not show up in the area to select devices to share with. That is as far as i can get. this is probably something that is really easy to fix but because my technology skills are lacking i am coming to you guys for help. thanks in advance.

I have looked through the support choices and I am still lost, on to what problem I have (which is why I came here). My wired router is one of the ones listed that works. The router is connected to 2 computers and my 360 and I still get nothing in WMP 11 to connect too. I have tried disabling my firewall for WMP 11 to detect my 360 but it still won't work. any other advice/ suggestions would be helpful. thanks

I bought a 360 a month ago and it worked perfectly with Windows Media Player 11 - I just had to allow it access in that settings tab. Unfortunately, the 360 had problems so I returned it the next day and got a new one. NOW I have the same problem as you - no matter what I do it won't connect - even though Windows Media Player 11 sees the 360 and I have allowed it. It boggles my mind because no router, firewall settings have changed in the 2 hours between when I returned the old one and got the new exchange.
I did get the 360 to be recognized when I restarted the computer while the 360 was on, but that's as far as it will go. Connecting it via the Media Center Function has never worked on either console. I spent days and days working on it and I finally gave up. I wish I had an answer for you: you're not the only one with this problem.
Stay away from the 'Media Center' option on the 360 unless you are running Windows Vista Premium/Ultimate or Windows Media Center OS. If you are just running Windows XP then using WMP 11 works fine for pictures, audio and .wmv video files.
Have both the 360 and the PC on. Make sure windows firewall is disabled on the PC to start and once you have everything working you can go back and work on passing it through the firewall. I have an external hardware firewall so I just leave windows' firewall off.
With both on, run Media Player 11 and go to Tools/Options and then the Library tab. Click on 'Configure Sharing' and you should see your Xbox in the 'Share my media to:" section (if not, make sure you've 'checked' the button for 'Share my media to:". After that you have to select folders to "monitor" that have media files you want to share. Select the folders and click OK and then OK again. Exit WMP 11 and you may want to reboot your computer (I had to the first time I set up sharing). Once you computer is back up, go to your Xbox and from the Media blade choose Audio, Pictures or Video. Select the connect to PC option, okay the pop up and you should see your files/folders.
I've got both of my 360's seeing my WinXP computer and every so often I disconnect the PC on the 360 side to connect to my Win2000 computer running Tyversity.
But WMP11 works fine on my XP system.

I actually have the same problem. I have the Media Center OS but used to be able to stream my music using the extender and play it while playing games. I didn't get online for a couple months and when I got back on, it wouldn't work anymore. Now I went with MP 11 and when I try to enable sharing it doesn't even allow it. I check the "share my media" box and ok it but then it just goes back to being unchecked. I haven't been able to figure it out. I can access the media center and stream my music and pics through there, but I can't listen to my music while playing a game. It's frustrating to say the least.

As posted here: http://forums.xbox.com/15549763/ShowPost.aspx
For those who are still having trouble try this:
This assumes basics like Windows XP with latest critical and optional updates and an administrator account with no other media software running in the background. Setup was attempted according to the connectivity setup from MS. This was accomplished with a wired connection with a Netgear Router with standard settings and Windows firewall. Also tested with Zonealarm Free edition with necessary programs allowed access.
This is running Windows Media Player 11 or Zune Software (or both). This is also if the software can see the 360, but the 360 will not pass the "PC Selected" 360 test. If the PC software (WMP 11 or Zune) does not show the 360, you have other problems with a firewall, router or other general connection problems.
First go to Control Panel, Performance and Maintenance, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer, System. You should see one or more red X error entries that state when clicked on something to the effect that the DRM is corrupted. If this is the case proceed, if not, this may not fix the problem, but worth a try.
Go to this site and follow the directions for a corrupted DRM: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/810422 (Important notes are to rename DRM folder, not delete, and backup licenses. Then upgrade DRM on site displayed in instructions.)
Now restart the computer, which is not stated but necessary. Recheck Event Viewer and verify DRM corrupted messages are gone. Now try connecting the 360.If still not connecting make sure the following services are Started by going to the Administrative Tools, Services: HTTP SSL, SSDP Discovery Service, Universal Plug and Play Device Host, Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service. If these services are not started, start searching to fix the problem.
For those who can connect but don't see content:
Make sure to use WMP 11 or Zune software as stated here: http://www.xbox.com/en- US/support/systemuse/xbox360/digitalmedia/pc.htm to enable sharing and build the sharing libraries that are listed in the Shared Documents folder that must be shared. Also, the 360 will only play certain file types as stated here: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemuse/xbox360/digitalmedia/intro.htm
Hope this helps. Don't forget the basics.
Also make sure to not have internet connection sharing enabled or media sharing will not work.
