Hello, I am in the market to buy the very best 46+ flat panel. I do not know if there is a consensus that LCD or Plasma is better and wonder if there is a consensus. Also, what is the very best TV in the plasma line or the LCD line, if there is a consensus. I primarily watch sports and regular TV programming and, to the extent available, watch HD programming. Generally, the room will not be a "dark" room and will have light but not excessive.
I do appreciate the benefit of the respondent's expertise and time to answer these questions to which I have not been able to find answers, perhaps, because there are so many options in the market or because there is no consensus answers. Thanks, again, for your inight.

Thanks, again, for your inight.Sorry. You will never get a consensus opinion. Check it out, there are many LCD vs. Plasma threads. Fans of both technologies will provide their opinions. Some will only attack the other technology and never provide any supportable facts. Your best bet will be to use your own eyes. After all, what matters is not what we like but what you like. You will be the one watching this new set.

do your homework. read up on both in these threads. as stated before, this forum is full of biased opinions that won't give and inch to the other side.

i have both plasma and lcd. love qualities of both.

i'm used to lcd monitors, maybe because i stare into an lcd all day at work and have gotten used to it's sharpness and brightness.

plasmas are good too. they will provide a nice deep black level if that is your pref. the images tend to look smoother on a plasma but some might say that means it's not as sharp as an lcd. either way the statements are true.
both look great.

the cream of the crop on both sides are so close imo that you can't lose either way unless you have placement issues that involve light shining on your tv and can't recofigure the furniture, or you are so sensitive to something in either technology that it bugs the hell out of you.

only you can know what those issues will be.

Want another opinionated advise? 120Hz LCD sets are doing just fine with motion - and if you play games they do it much better - and without plasma's green trail or image retention and burn-in.

Anyway - I watch movies on a 50" plasma, in my basement, and everywhere else I prefer LCD.

I thought that someone wit more time in the trenches than me could tell me that there was a consensus and that someone had sorted allo of this out before me. I now see I just have to watch more programming with plasma and lcd to figure out what works best for me.

The down side to plasmas has to be the burn in possibilities, falling asleep with it on with a dvd in it.....wakeing up to a hudge bummer.

The new Pioneers have a feature that it will turn off if it doesn't get some kind of communication from the remote within 3 hours. It can be activated or deactivated, but it's a decent idea if you might fall asleep.

Both great technologies with advantages and disadvantages for both. Just pick which ever one looks better to you but preferably take a look at them in a store that has lighting similar to what you have at home. Best Buy, Circuit City, Future Shop probably don't have lighting that is similar to your home environment.

I honestly don't think you can really trust the advice of most people on these forums anymore because you never know who might be working for who.

Hello. I just purchased a samsung 4053H. So far I really like it. I picked a lcd over plasma as I was worried about burn in problems. When I open up the manual there is a warning about watching 4:3 for more than 2 hours that says burn in could occur.

What about 2.35 1 movies? The tv is for dvd viewing only and sometimes I watch 3-4 movies in a row. Does this mean I have to make sure the screen is filled for a while between every movie I watch?

Now that I've switched over to using the a2 via hdmi I can only select wide fit which is nice for 4:3 but no more option to zoom movies.

My previous tv was a 30" which was very small for the room and I zoomed a lot. Now I want to watch the movies as they intended but the thought of a possible burn in on the new tv bugs me.

Opinion actually does mean something so I'm not sure what point you are making by pointing out my opinion and then offering your own. :rolleyes:
I would guess it is to somehow make my opinion less valid.
Please..provide some proof of your own. What panels do you actually own?
