View Full Version : So which to get: Troy DC or Alexander DC? Drandonuts 09-22-07, 05:43 PM Kind of curious. Which would you guys recommend? seniorpaul 09-22-07, 05:47 PM I can't comment on the quality of the video/audio of either, since i don't own them, but i thought Troy was a MUCH better movie. Your mileage may vary. swifty7 09-22-07, 05:48 PM most definitely Troy DC, Alexander is unwatchable, Collin Ferrel is a joke as Alexander, the entire movie is a joke. blackbelt 09-22-07, 06:39 PM I cant speak as to the quality of the hd of the movies, but troy was a much better movie than alexander was. I thought anyway. ajamils 09-22-07, 07:26 PM just that question that I wanted to ask :). So I guess it's Troy for me too. edo9125 09-22-07, 07:38 PM Troy is one of the worst epics in recent years. The acting is terrible (except for Eric Bana & Sean Bean), the battles look really bad because they are in computer animated CGI, The movie was bad enough at 150 mins now its even worse at 200 minutes. Troy DC is same movie it was at 150 mins except they added more scenes that really dont matter at all. OTOH Alexander DC is an excellent film, these people are talking about the earlier cuts of the movie not the one on HD DVD. The battles are phenomenal and real, the acting is very good (except for Angelina Jolie, but Iam not watching her for her acting skills ;)) Alexander DC is a complete film an makes up for what the previous versions were lacking. The plot is richer, charachters are more developed and the movie is a lot better for it. Also a lot of people hate Alexander as movie perhap because of their homophobic notions towards the film. I also have to say Alexander looks bit better in High Definition too. MidnightWatcher 09-22-07, 08:23 PM Troy is definitely a better movie than Alexander. mike171979 09-22-07, 09:36 PM I think some people look at Orlando Bloom and Brad Pitt, and think, not those 2 pretty boys running around in Togas trying to do a epic, ACK ACK!!!! But the acting in Troy was not that bad, and Troy as a whole is a good movie despite what some people think. Now Alexander is also better than most people give it credit for. I would suggust purchasing both to add to your collection, but if you only want one, I'd have to go with Troy. jediod 09-22-07, 09:36 PM Just get both! Maxflier 09-22-07, 11:29 PM I enjoyed Troy. I only made it halfway through the Alexander final cut. So yeah, my vote goes 100% to Troy. eightninesuited 09-22-07, 11:43 PM Alexander is a much more intelligent film in that it makes you piece together his history. Think Lawrence of Arabia, but not quite as good. Troy is a summer blockbuster set in ancient times. I love both films for different reasons. eapleitez 09-23-07, 12:22 AM most definitely Troy DC, Alexander is unwatchable, Collin Ferrel is a joke as Alexander, the entire movie is a joke. I'm not sure why people trash on Alexander. I thought that it was a great movie and fairly accurate as far as Hollywood goes. I mean, people made ridiculous comments such as the movie sucks because Ferrell had blond hair! And also, the homophobes always trash it. OggideM 09-23-07, 12:25 AM i found both lacking somewhat in theatrical form. i think TROY DC was a better improvment than alexander final cut, but in both cases the improvements are significant in improving the overall worth and replay value of the films. ClashFan 09-23-07, 09:51 AM I found both films a bit disappointing, but I already have the first HD DVD of Troy. I don't know if I'll get the 2nd b/c the IME is gone. I wish the film had followed The Iliad a bit more, too. I'll give Alexander a 2nd try, but the original version I saw was poorly paced and Ferrell (IMO) chewed up a lot of scenery. I have no problem with the bisexuality of his character as that is likely historically true. Both are epics and worth a look in HD, at least for their value as spectacles. Still, neither of these can hold a candle to Gladiator, which has spectacle, an interesting plot, and a great performance from Russell Crowe that makes Brad Pitt and Colin Ferrell look like middle school amateurs... gab2409 09-23-07, 05:51 PM I enjoyed Troy. I only made it halfway through the Alexander final cut. ditto MattFini 09-23-07, 07:04 PM I enjoyed the theatrical edits of both films and I intend to order both HDs in the very near future. bad_karma24 09-23-07, 09:53 PM Haven't seen the DC of Troy, but the original was terrible and I've heard the DC isn't much better. The TC and DC of Alexander were crap, but the FC is absolutely incredible. Fantastic acting, great storyline, etc. Alexander by far. MEC2 09-24-07, 10:55 AM Alexander is a much more intelligent film in that it makes you piece together his history. Think Lawrence of Arabia, but not quite as good. Not QUITE as good? Not QUITE? It's not quite as good as Martin Lawrence of Arabia... Of the three films mentioned in this thread, only two of them have Awrence in them... Pitt is tolerable as Achilles, Bana excellent as Hector, and Peter O'Toole excellent as Lawrence. I mean Priam... Alexander was awful... just awful. Watching Farrell ache for his smooth catamite Hephaestion is enough to cure you of movie watching forever. MEC2 BinaryLinguist 09-24-07, 11:17 AM Troy. As other stated, Alexander was unwatchable for me. eightninesuited 09-24-07, 11:19 AM Not QUITE as good? Not QUITE? It's not quite as good as Martin Lawrence of Arabia... MEC2 I was talking about how the movie was shot. Stone clearly modeled the film in the shape of Lawrence, in structure. getme 09-24-07, 01:05 PM I'm not sure why people trash on Alexander. Yes Alexander the great's father spoke with an Irish accent, completely authentic. |
