Not sure where to ask this, but I was wondering how everyone maintained their wires that aren't in use? I know I can't be the only one that has a bunch of different ethernet cables, speaker wires, video cords, and audio cables that aren't in use, but would like to be easily accessible when needing an extra cord/cable for something.

I bought some clear plastic boxes with snap on lids, sorted out my cables (Phone, USB, Audio RCA, A/V RCA, Cable RG6/RG59, etc.), filled each box with one category of cables, then slid the boxes onto a shelf in a closet. When I need a cable or have a spare to store, one glance at that shelf and I can pick out the related box.

When my collection was smaller, I had made a simple board wth a series of 1/8" holes drilled into it roughly 1/2" apart. Both 1/8" mini plugs and RCA cables could be stuck into a hole. The board was hung horizontally on the wall in a basement workroom about 7' off the floor. One cable hanging in each hole, sorted into lengths and type. Of course now with USB an firewire and ethernet and such, there is no standard "hole" size to continue that idea.

When I look at all the spare cables I own, it makes me think I should open a cable store. I certainly have some to sell.

The one gallon ziploc bags are my method as well.

thanks guys, i was hoping for a better way to keep everything looking ''showroom''(yes even in my house, with extra cables, ca get a little ocd) but guess i will just keep them in bags hidden in the closet.
