Told you so weeks ago;) Now it is finally confirmed. Kudos to Warner!

Even lossless audio is included...

That's the very first time the US (officially) get to see the Unrated cut.

Thanks for the confirmation. I think until recently, it was all just rumors.

I cannot wait. This is one of those movies that improves with every viewing. Like all of Kubricks films, this film is filled with so much nuance that there is always something new to discover with each subsequent viewing.

I just watched part of this disk on BD and there is not a selectable option anywhere for R version vs. Unrated version! Can anyone who has this disk verify that it is the unrated version or R version? If someone knows which scene I can verify the differences between the versions that would be great as well. The only rating on the box is R! Thanks.

This is most definitely the unrated version. I didn't notice any option in the settings for other edits/cuts. BTW, I could have swore the movie was rated NC-17 (never R). In any event, unless they put the movie through the MPAA evaluation system (whatever it is) and got it a new rating, the version on the disc shouldn't even be NC-17 let alone R.

Quick note on the disc itself, video quality seemed very good if soft (I think in this case the softness was done intentionally; there was fine grain present throughout the film). VC-1 is used for video, and PCM (16/48) is available for lossless audio. One thing about the video I noticed in a few limited scenes was some strange wavering of the brightness/contrast. Again, very few instances of this (and those instances were very short in duration), and for all I know it was my display. EWS is presented here in a 1.78:1 AR (full 16:9). As I recall, the original DVD was 4:3 and I believe it was advertised as being the directors preferred AR for the feature. I forget the actual theatrical AR, but this may not be OAR (assuming I'm correct in my recollection that this was 4:3, not 16:9). Just a heads up for purists out there.

well the version released in the US on video at least was the R version and that is what it says clearly on the box. Usually if it is both it says R and UNRATED but not in this case. It does say in the description that there is a way to select either R or Un version but of course there is not.

I think AVBill answered my question in the other thread. Yes, it is the Unrated version but, apparently not the R cut. BTW, I am not thrilled with the way this film looks in HD. I think 2001 looks much better and though grain can be a good thing, this film is REALLY grainy in many a scene.

Has anyone tried hitting the Angle button on their remote during the orgy scene? Maybe it's not just for porn anymore.

So whats the deal?? How do you select which version of the movie you want to watch?? Mine automatically starts playing the movie when you insert the disc. There is no options in the menu to select the rated or unrated version. The back of the box specifically says under Special Features Digitally Remastered Movie Selectable in Both Rated and - for the first time in North America - Unrated Versions. If anyone can tell me how to view the Unrated version let me know!

You are viewing the unrated version. There seemingly is only the unrated version on the disc.

I just tested that out. It didn't work. We only have the unrated version accessible as far as I can tell.

It's funny... if they had just listed it as the unrated version I would have been fine with it. However, since the box promised both versions I'm a bit disappointed (I guess I just wanted to see the silly digital people again).

Why even include the R rated version? Watching EWS with your 10 year old daughter?

No it would be more to laugh at the silly digital people. We all need a little humor in our lives. :D

It was worth a shot. I guess our last hope is every player in existence will need a firmware update to enable it. (Well I can dream, can't I?) Not that I'm really interested in the R-rated US cut anyway but if it was supposed to be there it should be there.
