View Full Version : calm before the storm
is it just me, or does it feel like the entire internet is holding its breath tonight? i keep going around and looking for hype-threads about halo, but it all feels very quiet, almost like nothing big is coming; i think we've talked about it, and postulated about it for so long that everything has been said, and now we are just holding our breath waiting for the real thing, because i don't think it's that people just don't care ;) perhaps we don't want to jinx it....
assasyn 09-23-07, 01:33 AM I just want to know where I can get an early copy.
rahimlee54 09-23-07, 02:08 AM I am going to enjoy the launch night party. The mall I am getting my copy from has partnered with Ruby Tuesdays so it sounds like it is going to be a decent time. I cant wait. One more full day :).
mikesketball 09-23-07, 11:42 AM "postulated".....good word. :)
Stangs55 09-23-07, 12:10 PM lol...i kinda feel this same way. There is sorta this pervasive anxiety in the air, it's thick and everyone knows it's there, but it goes understated yet understood--all that could be said has been said, all the videos have been watched, the hype couldn't get any bigger, we couldn't want it any more, and we no long have to moan about the wait because it's right around the corner. :) exciting
slcsnkman 09-23-07, 12:16 PM Wow..I cant believe people actually feel like this? Its just a video game..nothing more

Christmas is just a day like any other day (well for the less religous) but people still feel like this. A test is just another day at school. A trip to Kings Island is just another day out. The superbowl is just a football game.
People get excited about things they like. The anticipation is usually more exciting then the actual event but its all part of the fun.
MadPerry 09-23-07, 02:34 PM Wow..I cant believe people actually feel like this? Its just a video game..nothing more
is there nothing you get excited for? sports, audio/video equipment, a particular movie, a vacation, etc.?
i'm with the rest of these guys. can't wait to play!:)
TRALFAZ 09-23-07, 02:57 PM My friend works at Gamestop and when I stopped there today, the whole back room was jammed with boxes full of Halo 3 games. So close and yet soooo far. :( Still excited though !!!

And the best part is when the big day arrives and it exceeds even their high expectations.
I refuse to fall for the Microsoft induced feeding frenzy, though I use MS products I have no endearing love for Bill Gates, so I am going to wait until I can casually reach for the game off the shelf, no waiting in lines at midnite, no bidding wars from shady sellers on Ebay and I could care less about having to play it anytime soon. On my terms and not MS.

So...let me try to understand. Do you want the game or not? "Casually" reaching for the game off the shelf a month after release, you've still spent $60 and supported MS, which you seem to have a personal problem with. By the way, the game will be more than available enough to get on the first day without waiting in lines, and having to buy it on Ebay.
AHDTVDiet 09-23-07, 06:54 PM Yes my plan is to go up and buy it from CC or Walmart sometime after work on Tuesday. If I cant get it, well then I will try again on Friday. I am sure I will be able to pick it up somewhere, no lines required.
so sad....... never cared for halo. After playing pc shooters, halo just seems mediocre.

Oh my lord! Is this picture serious? Why would you camp out days early for this? There will be PLENTY of copies to go around. This has to be a joke.
I saw today that on my friends list that one of my friends is already playing Halo3. He has a 360 with a modded DVD drive firmware. I guess that he downloaded the game as he always does for every game. I sent him a message asking how it was? Got no answer...
eddy_winds 09-23-07, 07:24 PM Grads to you Xbox360 Fans
Good luck & have fun playing

1- Find a 24-hr WalMart nearby.
2- Drop by Tuesday 7:30AM to pick up a copy. No muss no fuss no waiting.

it's nice to have a completely new argument for a chnge
HDTV-NUT 09-23-07, 10:16 PM yep, definitely a calm before the storm. i haven't even turned my 360 on in 3 days because anything I play just feels like I am going through the paces. lol. my mind is set for halo3 and nothing not even the COD4 beta seems fun right now.
I've been busting through the Halo 2 SP to refresh my mind on the story.

Maybe downloading it he means.

Yep, the Blaster 360 NE was just released. I know someone who never paid a dollar for his games.
Some people have no shame.
Malcolm_B 09-23-07, 11:12 PM I love the Halo games, but am not a pre-order or stand in line kinda guy - my wife is picking it up for me Tuesday.
newfmp3 09-24-07, 08:18 AM yeah really, I'm going to just swing up tomorrow and grab it. If it's there, it is, if it's not, no big deal. Halo2 was a disappointment, and it seems the 8-10hr campaign for halo3 is going to be as well.
Are we going to need a new forum just for Halo discussions?
I will personally buy it preowned whenever it becomes available, no excitement over here. I mean really, it's a great game, but in the end it's just a game, except for people with no priorities in their life, assuming they have a life at all ;)
Just kidding all you halo geeks, but like I said, I'll get it preowned, and you all need a life ;)
Okay, perhaps that wasn't funny. In truth, I probably won't get it until it's on sale pre-owned. Oh, and anyone camping out for the game really needs to get a life ;)

Different people have different priorities in life.. and you REALLY need to be more considerate before dishing out the "get a life !!" advices.
Someone might give you the same advice for even spending time on an internet forum giving unsolicited advices to total strangers. :)

Fair, but there are many like me who can love both. To each his own.

Well, you are posting on a halo thread..maybe you need to get a life.
logicalnoise 09-24-07, 10:08 AM it's pretty anti climatic for me. I could go to a release party but would just go straight to bad after getting home since I have work. SO I'll just be getting it on my way home afterwork tuesday.
spinksjinx 09-24-07, 10:14 AM I still have games from last christmas I have yet to fully complete. No Halo 3 for me....Sorry but the only thing that game has offered new was a great aiming system in shooters...Granted its still the best but the multiplayer and story is sub-par.
edcokpareke 09-24-07, 10:24 AM The multi-player is subpar?
Thrillhouse17 09-24-07, 10:25 AM There's only 800 people playing this online right now. I'm just waiting for it to come crashing down.
That said, the online play is silky smooth. Utterly fantastic. I'll be spending quite a bit of time with this.

You forgot the blunt mannn!! lol
rahimlee54 09-24-07, 11:22 AM The online play is good until every 16 year old gets on and talk trash for no reason and lags around :). I cant wait, tonight is going to be GREAT.
Replicant Nexus6 09-24-07, 11:36 AM My mom works for Microsoft and brought home a copy of Halo 3 last night.
I quickly slipped it into my trusty 360...
:p:p:p
Kidding... Inside joke for all you PS3 forum frequenters as well... Will be picking mine up from BB tommorow.
Looking forward to playing against all of you starting Tuesday.
spinksjinx 09-24-07, 11:40 AM The multi-player is subpar?
Whats so great about it?
It has the been their done that feel and the fast paced bunny hopping is meh.
TRALFAZ 09-24-07, 11:49 AM I agree with all the bunny hopping being a bit ridiculous but being able to load your squad in a vehicle, head over to the other base, crushing people all the way, never knowing when a rocket is going to end your fun is worth the price of admission alone IMO. I usually play with friends, the general public with the screaming children is another story.
JetJock3315 09-24-07, 12:09 PM The customization that The Forge offers is likely to keep multiplayer part of the game fun and fresh for a long time. Some of the videos over at TeamXbox look great. I'm looking forward to playing a little "baseball"

Ah I'm just kidding, I practically lost sleep over the release of NHL08, I'm just not excited about Halo3 so I thought I'd have some fun ribbing people. I'm sure it's going to be great.

Forge will be a plague to the online gaming community when clans and friends get on their against people and protect their people..Its a glitch waiting to happen and I hate the idea....

Yup. It is.
kabob983 09-24-07, 02:47 PM I just want to know where I can get an early copy.
Xbox live friend of mine messaged me to say "I beat Halo 3 before you all even have it...wanna know what happens?"
Jerk!!! :P

Hey, guess what? I beat Halo 3 already and most of you here don't even have it! Wanna know what happends?
The online play is starting to slow down and lag a little, there are about 6000 people online, as opposed to the 800 when I first started playing. And in the past 4 hours I've been called a f****t about 8 times, corpse humped about 12, and found singing 13 year olds 3 times. Ah, some things never change. :(

formulanerd 09-24-07, 06:10 PM did the hammer replace the energy sword?
Mach1_8 09-24-07, 06:46 PM did the hammer replace the energy sword?
Nope. The sword is still there. There's supposed to be a cool feature where if 2 people attack each other with the sword at the same time you clash swords, get stunned and try again. Interesting.

Yeah, that's happened, and it's intense. We dove at each other before I finally took him down. It was really neat.
