View Full Version : what 1 movie can do
domingos1965 09-23-07, 09:29 AM i use to support HD DVD only but then i bought a PS3 and stopped buying HD DVD software for a long time.
now that TRANSFORMERS is a HD DVD only movie i am back in the HD DVD bandwagon.
what 1 movie can do huh?
Reginald Trent 09-23-07, 09:45 AM So Heroes wasn't enough? It took Transformers and not FOX being MIA to bring you back to HD DVD?

Different strokes for different folks. I have no interest in Heroes either but I am anxious for that Transformers disc.

How many people purchased a DVD player because of The Matrix. At the time I thought The Matrix was the "Killer App" for DVD.
Maybe Transformers will be the Killer App for HD DVD.

I have no idea what you are trying to say.

I don't get it either.
Why did you stop buying HD DVDs? Was it because there were no movies on HD DVD that you were interested in? Was it a boycott? Some other reason?
And now buying one HD DVD puts you "back in the bandwagon"? Does this mean you won't be buying BDs anymore?
I have both formats. I buy the movie I want because it's a movie I want, regardless of which format it's on. Isn't that the way it's supposed to be?
I have no idea what you are trying to say.
LOL... I've read his post several times trying to find his point, but failed... :p Unless he sold his HD DVD player and now with Transformers coming out he bought a player again, I can't really figure out what has changed. Or maybe he was trying to say that Transformers will make him buy HD DVD movies, which doesn't sound very logical either...

Speaking of differnet strokes, when is the complete series of diff'rnt Strokes coming to hd-dvd? If one show can push players it's this one.

Amen!! My thoughts exactly.

There needs to be a forum for jokes.

Amen, I own both and do the same.

I don't know that I'd go that far but then again, the industry couldn't decide on a single format so yeah... I guess you're right.

LOL. Should have seen that one coming.
MidnightWatcher 09-23-07, 03:18 PM Some will jump into HD DVD because of Transformers, some because of The Matrix, others because of Heroes or Battlestar Galactica. If I hadn't purchased HD DVD by now, the Bourne Trilogy would be enough to get me onboard. :)

tutelary 09-23-07, 03:28 PM So Heroes wasn't enough?
Heroes is HORRIBLE. It's one small step away from Smallville. Both shows are so mindless they are nearly insulting to watch, and NOT because they are hero shows, but because they are so poorly written.

Yes. Thank you. Heroes IS horrible. I guarantee you the writers made up the story as they went along. The whole first season lacked coherence and seemed implausible even for a show about superheroes. The premise was intriguing at first until they started giving powers to everyone and their mothers. I really wanted to like it too since I never got a chance to watch Heroes on tv. And don't even get me started on LOST. That show is one of the most poorly conceived shows I have ever seen and you truly have to be a drone to actually watch each season one episode after another. I've seen turtles on their backs move faster than the plot of LOST.
elonepb 09-23-07, 03:45 PM Transformers is the reason I bought an HD-DVD player. If I didn't have a PS3 (which I do), "Across the Universe" would make me buy one as soon as that comes out on Blu-Ray. Saw that last night - wow. Beatles uncompressed like that makes me salivate.

Good point, but I think Green Acres, Welcome Back Kotter, and Beverly Hillbillies on HD DVD could also be turning points for the format that releases them ;)

 You really wanted to like Heroes. You never saw it on TV. You've seen every episode now on HD DVD. You dislike Heroes and think it's horrible.
I am sure you can get a decent return on your discs in the second hand market. Personally, I only saw the series on HD DVD as well and find it compelling. Then again, I really like Smallville (another show I've never seen on TV), not least of all because Tom Welling is such an adorable boy-next-door hunk. There's a well-thought out season-long story arc, too, which I like (in both series). Sorry you're not enjoying same.
Heroes is an example of release which would help to tip the balance in favour of HD DVD, IMO.

couldn't possibly care less about Heroes. Transformers has me excited.

What's the relationship between The Beatles and uncompressed? They've never sounded compressed to me.

...you're kidding right? You have to be. These shows are bottom of the barrel trash. They have no discernable arcs worth a damn, and smallville in particular has had plot holes you can drive trucks through. Compare these shows to something like Buffy or Angel which actually HAD arcs (and good writing) and see what you think afterwards.

You do know that all the songs are covers, right?

If you're looking for something closer to original recordings, "uncompressed," what about the DVD-A version of the recent Love album. Review here:

He fell for Sony's Jedi mind trick...The thought of Optimus Prime exclusively on HD DVD bitch slapped him back into reality. :D:eek::cool:
