My wife on the recommendation from a Best Buy salesperson purchased a Sony RDR-GX355 DVD Recorder. I've read on other forums that this unit has extensive copy protection software that prevents recording from HBO and most other pay channels. I have not opened the box yet and am considering returning the unit due to this. Anyone have experience with this unit.
Thanks

Dunno about channel broadcasts but it has copy righted protection on alot of discs from my experience, only reason this player is good is for VHS to DVD dubbing IMO
We bought the Sony RDRVX555 on Saturday, and that model definitely has the copy protection -- we can't record anything on HBO (and, IIRC, Cinemax). We are planning to return it and exchange it for a different recorder. I want to find one that doesn't have the copy protection. I'd welcome any suggestions.

All recorders have it. But the Sony's do seem to be one of the more sensitive makes.
Panny's aren't usually as bad, though if your provider is inserting it, you're not gonna avoid it.
