View Full Version : Does Madden 08 make you want to kill people?
DerekinMerrick 09-23-07, 11:14 AM Ok I rented this game again and forgot how annoying it is. This game is so stupid and annoying by the end of the 1st quater usually I want to kill someone. I dont care if I am winning or losing it is so dumb. I have never seen a game so fustrating in my life. This game is also soooooo off with the way the teams really are. Anyone else like this or
AHDTVDiet 09-23-07, 11:20 AM Thankfully I let go of the initial hype and didn't buy it.....maybe they will get it right next year.
MikeKlim 09-23-07, 11:53 AM Yeah, at this point they're just releasing beta versions every year. IHO, my $60 can go to other games much more worth my time than garbage like this. This year, the bugs and glitches are off the charts.
LAKE4742 09-23-07, 11:55 AM Already decided, next year definitely renting first!
whiskey > work 09-23-07, 12:52 PM No joke Blitz the league is the best 20 dollar football game ever, maybe even cheaper now
Red Cell 09-23-07, 01:15 PM DooM is a great stress relief when frustrated like the OP, lol nice headline

Hope Jack Thompson isn't watching this thread...
I love Madden and so do almost all of my buddies.
In fact millions of copies sold say millions love Madden.
The OP is another wacky EA hating maniac

This pretty much sums it up.
I played for about an hour yesterday for the first time. I don't see why people are complaining. IT seems just fine to me so far. There are certain things I like better about last years controlls, but so be it. I think its decent.
mhufnagel 09-24-07, 07:58 AM I'm not an EA basher and I do play sports games, but think of this.
If any other type of game franchise (platformer, FPS, etc.) came out with the same game year after year for 20 years and just had minor changes each year, what kind of reviews would it get?
That's why I'll buy a Madden or other sports franchise game every 3 - 4 years. My latest Madden is 2005 for the Gamecube, still a pretty good game. These companies are screwing their fanbase over because they can sell you roster changes via download for $10 a year instead of selling you a $60 game each year.
Hell, there is still a rabid fanbase for Tecmo Superbowl. :D
truck-a-sauras 09-24-07, 08:32 AM I couldn't envision spending money on this game after the demo. I read there was way too many turnovers and it was ridiculous. Wanting to see this myself I played the demo a couple times and in one game which they let you play what? a total of like 4 minutes of football???? I saw 6 fumbles.
madden 08: fumble-master edition!
spinksjinx 09-24-07, 09:31 AM Madden 08 is full of pudgy looking oompa loompa football players....
God that game is horrendous, I tried it out the other day again and about puked.
Not a complete EA hater but that game aside from the NFL license is a piece of trash.
Villanman 09-24-07, 11:35 AM You would have thought all these haters would have already got it out of there system by now.
Me and My buds are still enjoying NCAA and Madden, like we do every year...
We buy it ever year because we play it year round. You play a game that long you will want the new version.
We are not getting screwed.
We are big boys and we know what we are getting and are happy to get it.
If your not in to the heavy competition with other players your never going to understand. We don't buy it to play the CPU. We buy it to play the sport among friends.
We don't sit around and pick apart the game.. we pick apart each other about how we play the game.
As far as Madden 08... I'm over a month into this game and we can go many games without seeing fumbles. Is it easier to fumble? by far... but it can be prevented.
If you don't like Madden 08, might as well not bother with 09, because 08 had the biggest changes to date on the NG version and was good enough for me to stop buying current gen.

Spot on, like always you can do very little to change the way you play the game of football without corrupting it and I think Madden has done a spot on job in keeping it in tact...Besides its a sports game you cant offer anything revolutionary anymore and if you could without making it over the top how about these haters please chime in?
I dont see the fumble problem as much as other people seem to complain about and I think its a weak excuse for people who like to hold onto the turbo button or special moves...Its known if you take the risk in using those its easier to drop the ball. DUH

There is a problem with that idea though- the computer fumbles just as much as human players. still, though, I've learned to just live with the fumbles, and it's made me step my passing game up. I rarely run the ball anymore against human players. Fumble problem solved.
The only real issue are the guards. A and B gap blitzes are MONEY this year, and the 3 man pass rush blitz is so money, it almost breaks the game. I can guarantee you'll see that defense in every tourney this year. If EA would up the pass blocking ability of the guards, it wouldn't be an issue.
abuharabi 09-24-07, 11:55 AM I've had many, many versions of Madden over the years. All but Madden 08 have been on the PC. I've been super happy with previous years' gameplay. However, Madden 08 is garbage, and I traded it in because of that. Total junk.
LAKE4742 09-24-07, 11:56 AM My biggest complaint is the A.I. The players' individual ratings mean nothing because the sliders take precedent over those. So, no matter how you adjust the sliders, it gives ALL of the players the same talent and skill level.

Ok, that sounds perfectly reasonable. When Do I start? Do you provide insurance? :)
RAVEN56706 09-24-07, 12:22 PM i like madden 08.... it isnt that bad... playing online could be the problem.... i love playing people who i score on 2 times and then they want a friendly quit... lol...

I can't believe that this game has no stat overlays. Stat overlays have been part of the game since the mid 90s!!!! What in the HECK possessed EA NOT to include them this year.
Stat overlays are the updated stats that pop up during the game (ie the QBs numbers so far in the game) for those that are wondering what i'm talking about.
DerekinMerrick 09-24-07, 04:53 PM This post had nothing to do with EA. Also I did rent it I learned my lesson last year. But I rented it again from Blockbuster since you can keep games for like a month now then I was gonna buy it from ebay by then it will be like 20-30 and I really dont think Im paying anything for this game. Its good once and a while but somethings are just soooooo oh sooooooo dumb
lacombo 09-24-07, 11:25 PM nope, no probs here

nailed it man. Nothing to add.
Shizelbs 09-29-07, 05:25 PM I love playing Madden, either solo, with friends or against a stranger on Live. However, there is one thing that makes me livid. Why is every pass thrown like a laser beam. I swear no pass, regardless of how deep the receiver, never goes above 9 feet in the air. No matter what, the defense can always tip it. Say my QB throws from the 20 to a receiver on the 38. A linebacker on the 30 can leap and pick it off. Its total bullcrap. Wake up EA, there is a thing called loft. It happens all the time in the NFL.
EA, its in the game, except for loft. There's your new slogan.

Arc on the football is dependent on how long you hold the pass button.
Just a tap will give you maximum "loft" while holding it will give you a laser bullet pass.

Right, I realize that, but a 30 yard laser throw should not be knocked down as often as it is by a defender under the peak of the arc. It just not realistic.
DerekinMerrick 09-29-07, 07:26 PM yup thats my point. Its so dumb the passing. One you really figure out the D it is almost impossible to throw a good pass without it getting picked 95% of the time. So stupid.

I don't throw laser passes over a defender to begin with. If I don't have a passing lane... my passes are going to have some arc.
I sat out madden '08 because it's yet another crappy version for the next gen consoles. There are so many flaws/glitches in the gameplay, etc. that I simply don't find it enjoyable. I can sympathize with the OP, but I was smart to rent it first before buying. The last version I bought was '06 for xbox 1. It seems clear to me that the next gen game engine has alot of flaws/etc (regarding gameplay mainly), and I won't buy it till it's better.
Now, for the people that do like it I say great, I'm glad you enjoy it. But.. the focus on madden has clearly shifted to just getting stuff out the door, rather than delivering a quality product. I will rent the game again next year, and if it sucks, I will look to another football game or have none. Btw, I used to be a hardcore online player as well, but the gameplay/AI/choppy framerate (I have a ps3) is just sad. I have played the 360 version as well and just think the new game engine for madden is just lacking in many ways compared to the last-gen game engine.
So.. I'm not an EA hater, I've just shifted away and stopped purchasing madden because the quality has gone downhill consistently.
DerekinMerrick 09-29-07, 11:29 PM I never said I bought it. I am pissed I payed 5$$ for the rental!!!!! Its just a joke I get so mad at this damn game. Sometimes you can call the perfect play on D and the other team gets a touchdown or you can run the worst offenseive play and get a touchdown. Or fumble because the wind blew too hard.
Gear Guy 10-04-07, 12:15 AM No online leagues really makes this title hurt in a world where most every popular title has some type of online component, other than being able to make a room.
The vertical pass is still bad from Madden 07, the INT's are brutal, and the jet pack jumps are not sim at all. I just finished a league and can't wait to see if I can get a few bucks back for this. I just wish instead of putting in the dumb create-a-super-player, they would get the gameplay online to sync with the offline. The kicking online is simply terrible. Doesn't matter what angle you put it at, it goes either right down the middle, or right out of bounds early. Oh well. Hopefully EA doesn't pony up another $500 million to buy the rights again. Competition is healthy.
dpe8598 10-04-07, 12:57 AM I'm enjoying it so far. As usual, I wish they would do more with the franchise considering how much money they get. No online leagues is ABSOLUTELY 100% unacceptable. Besides that, I really like the game and the more you play it, the more you notice the little things.
I'm especially appreciating the animations. I'm noticing that players have appropriate animations this year considering their size, running style, catching style, etc...
