I realize this isn't directly pertinent to this forum, but for those of you who aren't following the HD-DVD forum you might be interested to hear that the latest firmware upgrade to the HD-XA2 Toshiba (to provide 1080p24
output for HD-DVD movies) also outputs 1080p24 for standard definition DVDs! After seeing "judder free" output from my Blu-Ray player I was contemplating purchasing a high end VP primarily to be able to get 24p for regular DVDs. Acquiring that capability plus having an HD-DVD player to boot for around $600 is a wonderful deal. Unfortunately the current firmware is literally 24, not 23.98, so there is a dropped frame issue - but Toshiba has acknowledged the problem and is working on a fix. Anyway, an interesting development for those seeking 24p at a modest price.

interesting, I wonder if they'll accelerate playback (prefereable) or adjust to 23.978 instead.

but aren't dvds encoded at 480i60? I mean, great to have a Reon do the processing to 24p if you don't have an outboard processor, but isn't the great thing about high def discs at 24p that this is the output of the actual data on the disc w/o any processing?
