I am planning on buying the VGA cable for the Xbox 360 and connect it to my Samsung HDTV. Will I see a big difference from the component cable or is it no big deal at all?

Thanks for any help.

VGA will allow your XBox 360 to upscale DVD up to 1080p while component will only allow your XBox 360 stay in 480p. How much a difference depends on how good your TV's internal scaler is vs XBox 360's scaler.

As stated, the 360 will upscale DVDs via VGA; the VGA ports on most TVs are *not* overscanned, while component and HDMI default to overscan on; and, finally, VGA supports native resolution on most all displays(ED, WXGA,stretched XGA, etc), not just 720 and 1080. Three pretty good reasons to try it out.

It depends on a lot of different factors, so try and borrow someone's to test before you buy. VGA looks marginally better on my Samsung 720p plasma, but it's pretty close to DVD over component. Worst case is it looks the same, so it's not too much of a risk.

I connect to my Samsung DLP with VGA. It looks great. It's been a while now, but I believe it was a better picture than component.

I don't mean to throw off the topic but was hoping someone might help...

I have two universal, learning remotes - a Philips and a Universal, both of which have codes for Xbox (doesn't say Xbox 360 though). Neither of them works with my 360, and scanning through other codes didn't work either. Any ideas or suggestion, I really would rather not buy yet another remote control.

Thanks

I got the VGA cable, and didn't realize there was a "reference levels" setting. Changing it to the middle or top one made a huge difference in picture quality for DVD's. Now I'm extremely happy with it.

I briefly had a Samsung 50" HP-5054 plasma and connected my 360 to it via both component and VGA (i set the reference level on the 360 to EXPANDED with VGA). To my eyes VGA yielded a slightly sharper and brighter picture with less color bleeding. I also found DVD playback was slightly improved over component since the console would scale the image to the default resolution. VGA also gave me 1:1 pixel mapping.
