Is this movie with Nicolas Cage a blind buy? it looks to be a HD DVD exclusive together with "Nocked up"...any inputs?...thanks.

I don't really know if it's a new release or not, but it is advertised on the BB and CC ad

at the risk of sounding extremely stupid and corny, when thinking about whether to buy this, I'd recommend the "next" one.

Man, that was horrible.

Wife and I enjoyed it in the theater, but it is what I consider a "middle of the road" movie. Try renting it first :)

I will be picking it up on HD myself

If it was cheaper I'd consider it, but for $28, they can keep it. Mediocre movie with a stupid ending. For $15 maybe... It wasn't bad, it just had the potential to be so much more.

What Chew said. Quality wise I think it is up there with Disturbia. For the price point, it is right on the border of sale/no sale

This is all good to know. I guess I'll pass as well then. Knocked Up is a must though. Plus, it looks like they've finally dropped the combo price by $5. Not bad.

I saw this in the theater during its run, I was torn. I love Jessica Biel but hate whats her name. I thought things were going decently in the movie but the ending made me want to start punching babies. Honestly I suggest renting it while you are about 1000 yards from any babies.

It was an ok movie up until the ending which sucked. I say rent it at most.

Jessica Biel in HD anyone? Isn't that alone worth the price of admission?

I got this 2 weeks ago. It's OK, but nothing spectacular.

movie was ok. I dont know about if its worth a buy. I may buy it on a week when the new releases are crap, but im buying Knocked Up and Halo 3 this week, and my wallet can only take so much

Both "Next" and "Knocked Up" at the top of my Netflix queue. I'll see in an hour or 2 if I got them both. Neither do I care to buy as I doubt I will watch them again.

Started with promise, then fell apart. Not a very good movie. I won't be buying it in any format.

I always hate it when a Philip K. Dick based film goes south. First there was "Paycheck" with Afleck, and apparently now there's "Next" with Cage -- and I usually enjoy Cage :(!

I dont care what the "so called critics" said about this movie, I have had it now for a few weeks and it was well worth $30.00,I have watched it numerous times now. I really enjoyed it Great PQ & AQ and a typical Nick Cage action flick...

I like it at the movies. I pre ordered it from amazon a while back.
This movie is better than Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz which both sucked imo.
I'm glad I didnt waste money blind buying those two movies.

I regret having bought it. Poor PQ and AQ was nothing spectacular...plus bad movie. And I usually like these types of films.

Just watched it - movie wasn't bad at all. Some folks may not like the "twist" at the end, but it's not so bad, and the rest of the movie was pretty good. The wife and the kids (15 and 14) all enjoyed it, I'd say it's a 2.5 out of 4. Some laughs were to be had. PQ and AQ were pretty darn good.

Of course, this continues a long Hollywood trend of having accented white Europeans wanting, for some reason, to light a nuke off on US soil, instead of, oh I dunno, AL FREAKING QAEDA. Note to Hollywood - no need to create phony bombers, real ones exist.

I am amazed at how awful the special effects were in this movie.

I picked this up and haven't watched it on HD DVD yet. However, I did see it in the theater. It was fun enough for me to want to buy it but I can definately see why some people won't like it. Here's why you won't like it:

1) some special effects are bad (car getting hit by train as an example)

2) movie is short, only and hour and a half

3) Plot is simple. Maybe it could have been more complex with a longer run time but maybe it would have fallen apart and that's why the director made it shorter. Who knows.

4) Sort of derivative in a little way of Deja Vu, but not entirely.

5) Nicolas Cage

WHy I liked it.

1) I like the premise of the guy being able to see short durations into the future.

2) I like that they limited the power and remained consistent. For instance you didn't have to just suspend belief because things happened as you would think they would happen if he had this gift and learned over time to use it.

3) The movie had some heart and soul.

4) Jessica Beil was not bad

5) Nicolas Cage. I like the guy and he didn't have any of those obnoxious Nicolas Cage moments where his arms flail and he hells a lot sounding half insane but somehow working through the problem in his rambling monologue.

Do not blind buy if you kow nothing of the movie. Try to watch a trailer or rent it. Don't rely on reviews.

are blind buys any worse than wasting $20-$30 to see a movie in the theater?

Whatever you do don't watch the trailer or read any plot descriptions about the movie before watching. It will ruin the "twist" at the end.

are blind buys any worse than wasting $20-$30 to see a movie in the theater? At least you've still got something to show for your money. At least that's what I figure. I have friends who are shocked how large my collection is. Then I ask them how often they go to the movies. I think I'm the one spending less money...:)

I personally enjoyed the movie. It was fun. That's about what I was expecting. It also was shorter than most movies now (96 minutes) which made it much easier to find time to watch.

Very good question!!!

No, blind buys are not worse than going to the theater. For me, with kids, getting out with the wife is a rare thing. Sometimes when we do get a a break for a couple hours and want to catch a movie there might not be any good ones showing. So we watch the one that might be somewhat appealing. To me, action movies are more interesting if I am going to spend the money, since a comedy or drame doesn't loose much when watched at home.

Anyway, I did see previews of this movie and thought it was interesting to see. I liked it enough to buy it. This movie is not one of my favorites but it did represent a movie from Paramount that I felt worth supporting them with a purhcase.

WHen I say it's not a blind buy, I mean to the general poster, because I can separate my tastes from what I think most others might have. I liked the move "The One" even though most people don't (and almost for the same reasons by the way).

Anyway, the other guy is right, the previews do give a lot of the plot and even the twist away.

Well, I ordered it because I like Philip K Dick stories. Anyway, I tend to enjoy movies despite most other people hating them so maybe I'll like it. :D Mine shipped yesterday from a danish shop.

Rented this on standard def to watch last night (man, I love the Red Box DVD rental machine at my local grocery store! $1 per day!!). We enjoyed it just fine but it's not a movie I'd watch multiple times so I won't be picking it up on HD DVD. But definitely worth a buck and a few hours of time! :)

Watched my Blockbuster Online rental last night, enjoyed the movie. I warned my wife beforehand that this was a popcorn flick and try to not to analyze any plot holes, but she still couldn't resist and asked "Was he actually on the roof when he read the license plate of the van?" or in the same scene "Couldn't the girl see him, he's standing 2 feet away?". I wasn't a fan of the Jacob's Ladder ending either, messed up the whole 2 minute premise.

I really love the movie. I can just ignore the ending. However, for me the highest point of the movie is when he splits up. Really cracked me up!

Just got this from Netflix. Decent PQ. Horrible movie. I dont use that term lightly. This movie was painful to watch through. Although Im having trouble deciding if it should get 1 or 2 stars on Netflix.

The only redeeming value IMHO is Jessica Biel, but the fact that her skin was the color of an oompa-loompa makes even that not worth much.

I just watched it. I thought it was pretty good. The ending may have felt a little cut short depending on which thread you thought was most important.

The picture was mostly very good and the audio didn't have the exaggerated bass that seems to have become popular lately. I'm watching on a 720p DLP front projector, 92" screen and am using DD through coax.

All in my opinion of course.

Nobody else spot that this film has a picture quality issue similar to the problem with the original Full Metal Jacket release? All sharp vertical edges on this film have aliasing making me suspect this is not a full vertical resolution release...

I made a blind buy and liked Next HD DVD. Nicolas Cage rarely dissapoints but the movie was far from perfect. It seemed like they forgot the last 30 minutes of the film and I am sure that bothered many. But for the most part an enjoyable 90 minutes. I found the PQ and AQ quite good. If you are not a big Cage fan you may want to rent this first. I can only speak for myself.

I rented this from netflix and didnt care for it, theres some really neat stuff, how he avoids getting caught in the Casino etc. and the scene with stuff falling down the hill was pretty cool. Jessica Biel looked HOT. But the movie just felt average. Julianne moore, who I usually love was miscast and didnt feel like she wanted to be in the movie. Some of the scenery though is amazingly beautiful. Grand canyon and the waterfalls looks stunning . Pretty decent PQ. Audio was alright.

Movie 5/10
PQ 7.5/10
AQ 7/10
