Exactly what I was thinking. I just watched it on my Mitsubishi HD1000 projected to 100" and it looked horrible. Probably one of the worst looking DVDs that I have projected.

Part of the wheeling and dealing between Toshiba and Paramount may well have included agreements to release some substantial catalog titles somewhat earlier than otherwise.

When new customers shop for an HD format this holiday season, seeing an A++ film like Braveheart exclusive in the HD DVD rack is worth a lot more than a television spot.

This title has long appeared in Paramount's "coming soon" films, along with Star Trek: First Contact (as well as the ultimate movies collection), School Of Rock, Spongebob Squarepants Movie, Grease, Forrest Gump, Coach Carter, Vanilla Sky, and a couple others. So I wouldn't be too surprised if it turns out to be true...but I won't get excited 'til I see an official announcment.

This is a movie that would make me hasten my plans to buy an HD DVD player (waiting till 3rd Gens come out).

Paramount hasn't sent any information to retailers yet, but they will be making alot of announcements shortly so it's possible word just leaked out about this early. They are definately stepping up their release schedule now that they are HD-DVD exclusive. And you're going to see alot more day & date titles as well now.

The film will be presented in newly-remastered anamorphic widescreen video, with Dolby Digital 5.1 and 2.0 audio. The previously released audio commentary with director Mel Gibson and 2 theatrical trailers will be included, but you'll also get 2 new featurettes (Tales of William Wallace and A Writer's Journey), archival interviews with the cast, a photo gallery and multiple History Channel featurettes as well. There's no indication yet of an HD-DVD release, but stay tuned. There's also no indication yet as to whether the original DVD's documentary (A Filmmaker's Passion: The Making of Braveheart) will be included. We'll be sure to update you when we know more.

As reported yesterday, Paramount Home Entertainment has a new DVD version of Mel Gibson’s epic Braveheart in the making for release on December 18. Until now we had not had detailed information about the exact contents of the release but finally we are able to give you the full scoop.

The film will come in a new widescreen transfer complete with 5.1 Dolby Digital audio. As extras you will find a Commentary Track by Mel Gibson on the disc, accompanied by the History channel Documentary “Reel To Real”. As another extra, look for the Featurette “Tales Of William Wallace” as well as Cast and Crew Interview, a Photo Gallery and a gallery of the movie’s various Trailers.

Good news, I can wait, at least we have a pretty good idea it's coming, this is one of the biggies for many of us!

I hope they at least make the announcement prior to the end of this year and stick a date on it, that will go a long way for many people considering a player this holiday season if they at least see the formal news that this IS indeed on it's way to HD DVD soon enough!

I want to see this movie in all it's HD glory so bad.

I've seen this film 3 times when it was in theaters and I've watched the DVD too many times to count.

This is one of the best movies ever. Mel Gibson rocks.

WOOT! This is FANTASTIC news! Mel Gibson may be a lunatic and Braveheart is laden with historical inaccuracies but man I love this film!!! It should be a perfect demo piece... I wasn't expecting this at all... Made my day!!!

Man, I wish Braveheart HD-DVD would come out on Dec. 18th! What a perfect stocking stuffer this would be.
