Just got my HD DVD set of Smallville the complete 6th season and the insert inside the front cover says..." IMPORTANT NOTICE" "This Blu Ray disc is manufactured to the highest quality"...blah blah blah, and then "to ensure the best possible viewing experience, your Blu-Ray disc player may need a firmware or software update"...you get the idea.
The set was sealed complete with security tape.
Its just kind of funny I guess...It seems HD DVD and Blu-Ray are packaged in the same place.

Mine also had the same Blu-ray insert.

I got a Netflix sleeve that said something similar. It reads:

"Please Note: If you have received a double-sided DVD: One side is in the Blu-Ray format and only playable in a Blu-Ray player. The other side is for all standard players."

Mind you, at the top of the sleeve is the HD DVD logo. ;)

Let the studio know - I'm sure they'll want to find out which batch got sent out like that.

Though it isn;t quite as funny as a few BD box sets appearing with HDDVD discs in them (ala Planet Earth).

But, I thought there weren't any BD/DVD flippers, so the netflix thing has to be waaaay wrong! LOL

A look into the future? I expect all HD DVDs to be considered "Blu-ray" in the future when dual format players become like DVD+ and DVD- ...

Wonder who Sony had to pay off to get that mishap done. lol

Maybe Warner figured this was the cheaper solution than actually releasing TotalHD

This has happened before, I forgot which movie it was, but one of the very first HD DVD's I bought back in Jan also had that same BR insert by mistake, I think the Planet Earth set also had the wrong one, no biggie.

What's the problem? HD-DVD players use a blue ray of light. Blu is just a typo. :D

Something that's always bugged me... HD DVD and Blu-ray are incompatible formats, independently-developed from early on. One would think that, with the seemingly vast differences in Sony and Toshiba's marketing style and philosophy, there would be significant differences between HD and BD cases. Yet, for all intents and purposes, they are identical, save for the color.

If one were prone to conspiracy theories, it might cause one to start to wonder if this "war" wasn't pre-planned all along.:eek:

old stuff.

I remember blu-rays with hd dvd & hd dvd with blu-ray inserts 6 months ago.

Guess they're still doing it. Kinda makes you wonder if they're packaged at the same plant or something. (I guess along the same lines of BobRob's thinking).

well, it's not a mistake really. The insert says "this BD is manufactured to the highest quality possible"... so they give you HD DVD. Nothing wrong with that!

Ordered Planet Earth on BD from WB back when it was released and it came with an HD DVD insert.

So, evidently, it's not just consumers who are confused by there being multiple HD disc formats. :p

I'd started another thread, but someone pointed me to this one so I thought I'd share.

Wonder if this only happens with studios that are dual-format or not. If not, then that would explain something. hehe
