I know this is a older game and that III is about three weeks away, but I got a few questions about it. First, I haven't played any GH games at all. Always seemed like a liitle out of my taste as far as games go. Play anything really, just a different type of game. The thing is while shopping with the wife and kids, we came across a display of the game. On a HD set with SS going. My wife who kinda rolls her eyes at my games yet understands it's a form of hobby picked up the axe and actually starts trying to play. My son is next, they don't know how the controls work, so it wasen't easy for them to score. The thing is my wife walked away saying that it was fun. Kinda hinting that we should pick one up. Heres my questions.
1. How do the controls work? I know theres instructions. Just want a brief rundown.
2. I have a HD set and SS system, is it really as fun as it looks?
3. How easy is it? She recently picked up Sonic 2 that my son plays on live and started playing for nostalgic reasons. Thats really as much gaming as she does.
Thanks for any help.

1. The controls follow a simplified version how a guitar works. As notes come down teh note chart you hold the appropriate color down and strum right as each note gets to the circle at the bottom. If there is a stream of notes coming down for one color(4 greens in a row) you simply hold down the green fret and strum 4 times(eventually up and down at teh same time but going in one direction is preferable to some, it's easier to learn how to do it now rather than later). Eventually you can learn how to hammer ons and pull offs but that's best to worry about later(there's a decent tutorial in the game).
2. Yes the game fits HD well though it does black bar on certian sets(slightly) the SS always sounds great and the built in ag calibrator should help if your tv has significant input lag).
3. Well teh game scales the note charts depending on the difficulty chosen. Easy only uses the first 3 frets(green red and yellow). medium introduces the 4th(blue) which then inturn makes you start using your pinky. Hard then introduces the orange button, which makes you start shifting your hand. Expert ups the anty with harder chords more accurate solos and three finger chords. Each difficulty also scales the note amount for each song. On easy you'll only be playing the root notes(you hit one note and maybe 5 go off in the song). and on the otehr side on expert you should be hitting a note onscreen for every note you hear(FYI the games end song is freebird).
Most previews say GH3 will be a harder game as far as note chart complexity though if your playing on easier difficulties do not worry. GH3 also looks to have a mostly metal and aggresive soundtrack where as GH2 has more of a mix of all kinds of rock. Keep in mind that considering your whole family seemed to enjoy GH2 remeber that rock band is out in novemeber and that lets 4 people play Vocals, guitar, bass and drums. anyways one step at a time. Hope I helped.

^Get out of here with that spam. For all we know, Rock Band could flop. Just wait til its out and post something useful.
I've never played a Guitar game until recently. I picked up the GH2 for the 360 and have been hooked. I'm almost finished with hard. The hammer-on's are tough for me right now... My suggestion is maybe get the GH3, which comes with the wireless guitar and pickup a used or game only copy of Guitar Hero 2. It should work with the new guitar. The only way I can't confirm this is because it isn't out yet.

It's very, very fun and as far as difficulty, just about anyone can pick it up. One of the cool things about GH is it's as easy or hard as you want it to be.
There are 4 difficulties, easy, medium, hard and expert. On easy, just about anyone can pick it up and get thru a song on the first or second try once they figure out the controls. You only use 3 fingers and there are almost no chords (pressing multiple buttons together). Medium is a little harder, you use 4 fingers and there are some chords.
Hard gets quite a bit tougher, using all 5 buttons, lots of chords, and the notes are much quicker. Expert, well, let's just say it's VERY tough, but you never have to touch it if you don't want to. Most people play the game on Easy and Medium
I'd say definitely get GH2 now, then if you guys like it (you will) you can pick up GH3 and have a second guitar for 2 player play, which is a lot of fun.
Get it, it's the kind of game where just about anyone who sees it wants to give it a try, even non gamers. Great party game.
