Anyone know of new work plastic boxes prepunched for conduit that are fully enclosed (for sound isolation). All the boxes I find prepunched for conduit are LV open boxes.

Going to use to run video up to projector; need to close off/seal up box in ceiling.

Browse the nearest big box electrical aisle and look for the closed non-metallic type of junction boxes and enclosures intended for outdoor or surface mounting. Carlon makes a variety which all have either knockouts or threaded holes for 1/2" or 3/4" non-metallic conduit termination. To flush mount it, put in a stub of 2X4 between rafters at the appropriate depth.

If you need to terminate larger conduit, say 1-2" to pass an HDMI connector end, you might have to adapt a larger closed "utility" box by drilling a hole to install the appropriate conduit fitting.

Hope that gives you some ideas to think about...

I see in the Carlon catalog "FS" type boxes that take up to 1" plastic conduit. I'll poke around - thanks - was not looking at that type box, only looked at more conventional.

Will 1" cut-it for HDMI and component video?

See page 8 with respect to ENT

1" knock outs.; also note adapters for larger sizes on following pages - could use these to adapt virtually any plastic box. Will need punch for larger holes. Could probably cut the openings freehand with a dremel.

I purchased the boxes on P.8 along with a 100 feet roll of 1 inch 'liquid tight' conduit.

This conduit was very expensive (almost $2 per foot), but will be continuous with smooth bends and should be easy to pull cable through. an HDMI connector head appears to clear it well.

Do I pull the HDMI and Component before or after drywall?

If I pull it before drywall, I am concerned the drywall contractor will mess up the various (expensive) video cables (can't stuff all the excess in the box).

If I wait until after drywall to pull, what if there is a problem with the pull?

At least to the projector, I plan to run two conduits just in case.

Any suggestions?

Just a hunch, do it before because I don't think a component will fit in a 1 inch conduit with out a LOT of persuasion. But then again my component cable is 7/8 inch thick maybe yours is less.

My component will, but HDMI might be tough.

My gut is to pull before and ask the drywall contractor to be careful (they will have to cut the box opening before hanging the sheet - old school - rather than rotozip after.

If they mess up the cable, I can always repull then.

Or....pull cable before outside the conduit and leave a completely bare conduit for more cable later.
