Well, it looks like Lionsgate has until 11/13 to announce Lord of War, Saw 3 and Reservoir Dogs on HD DVD. Otherwise, they'll lose the sales to their overseas distributor...:cool:

Well, I'm interested in seeing how Dutch Filmworks handles Reservoir Dogs, Lionsgate's BD looks almost exactly like their DVD. I was extremely disappointed...

Lord of War, though not at the top of my list it is another Blu-Ray exclusive I can enjoy on HD DVD.

Saw that pic on HighDefDigest...gets me really excited. SAW is one of my favorite series, no matter how downhill it continues to go. Love Lord of War and Flyboys as well...

The Netherlands (noun) = country
Dutch (adj.) = language and people

Menu language will probably be Dutch, only Dutch subtitles, however English audio, since there is no dubbing for foreign movies in the Netherlands. (except for cartoons for children)

The Dutch language has some similarities to English, it won't be difficult. Hey, some people get along with Japanese menus without knowing Japanese. I even know people who play Japanese RPGs in Japanese.

The menus shouldn't be a problem, my only worry would be if they have forced subtitles.

Lord of War - Jesus, what a worthless PoS movie... just like almost any movie in the past 2-3 years with Nicholas Cage 'Coppola' - why on Earth he keeps taking on these ******** and ******** roles (reaching his all-time low with the latest uber-pathetic-crap Ghost Rider) and screenplays I have no idea but it's telling...
Had he born into another family - i.e. Coppola wouldn't be his "godfather", his uncle - he have never made it to this high in the movie business, that's for sure.

I have the blu-ray version of Flyboys but since my Sony BDP-S1 can't send the DTS-MA track via bitstream I wonder if this import will be regular DTS 5.1 or MA?

Crossing my fingers it's better than the underwhelming Blu-ray transfer.

Was debating Saw 3, but the Blu-ray is pretty rock solid, so I'm good. :cool:

A Dutch software movie (web) reviewer gave all the Dutch Filmworks releases a quick glance (ln depth reviews to follow in the coming days/weeks) and said that Lord of War looks really bad AND it's o.a.r. is massacred, the same goes for 28 Blocks.
He noticed quite a few artifacts in Underworld (which is also the short version ).
Reservoir Dogs he said looked pretty good.
Running Scared looks really bad, Saw III he said looked good and so does Flyboys.

Some of those releases have the 4% Pal speed-up as well.

Maybe you all should wait for some professional reviews before you order some of these discs, don't say I didn't tell.

I can confirm Lord of War and Running Scared are without a doubt the worst HD transfers I've ever seen!! I have returned them and got my money back, you DON'T wanna buy those!

Underworld I already have on Blu-Ray, Flyboys looked OK, so did Saw III, although the US version looks a lot better!

I bought Lord of War, and I can confirm that it is the worst quality HD DVD in my (40+ titles) collection.

When you say Flyboys looked OK - is that OK in the sense of HD (it was stunning) or is it OK in the sense that it was all right, but not great HD?

This is one I've held off on buying on DVD but if the HD transfer isn't any better, there's very little reason to pay the import HD DVD pricetag.

Received my Reservoir Dogs on Friday and watched over the weekend. The transfer is fantastic, with detailed black/shadow levels, excellent sharpness and little to no grain.

This disc is also LOADED with extras - almost every single extra that appeared on the OOP 10th anniversary 2-disc SD set that Artisan released several years back.

I also own the BD version and would say the Dutch HD-DVD version edges out a slight but noticeable win in the PQ department (the AQ is identical on both discs) and trounces the Blu-ray as far as extras go. For $26, you can't go wrong.
