Anyone run into this..

I have about say 60% free on the indicator.. i goto record a show.. in this case, an HD station.. suddenly it says its 100% full.. if i go through and delete one SD station (30 mins).. suddenly it is at 51% free and that show records...

Already i had 2 premieres get screwed up due to this hunk of junk :(

Anyone found a solution to this problem?

I originally thought maybe deleting all the content then starting over would "clear up" the issue, but dont really want to do this necessarily.

Thanks in advance

I am having the same problem. The only solution comcast gave was to bring my box in to a service center and swap it out for a newer box which I am doing this evening.

Thanks for the reply...

Did you try deleting all saved programs though and see if that helped?

I have played around with if for about a month now.

I tried clearing all the programs, I reset the box, I tried keepings junk program to delete to fix it. When it came down to it, it would seem like it was fixed but then in a week the issue would creep back so I am just getting a different box.

I've run into the same problem. Seems odd that a hardware glitch just popped up for a number of people at the same time........

This is not a new issue, at least on my end. I am on my 5th box in less than a year (Shaw Cable in Vancouver area)... have had fan issues, hard-drive issues and signal issues. The a/m problem occ'd on all the boxes at least once. Usually if I delete one program, it seems to reset itself - not that this helps after you've missed taping your preview tho! My only consolation is that I know it's cost Shaw more money coming out here on a monthly basis than they're raking in from me on their overpriced cable package!

I ran into this last night for the first time, although I had read about it before. It made me miss the first half of Heroes...

In my case the box had been on for about an hour maybe. I walked by and noticed the red light wasn't on (and knew Heroes should be recording). I turned it on and it said 100% (no warning dialog, just showing full in the My Programs list). I tried deleting a show, and I believe it then went to 26% full - but I couldn't get it to start recording again. I played with it a bit, and finally, after turning the power off for a few seconds (not unplugging, just turned off and then back on), it started recording again. Another show recorded afterward fine.

We'll see if it pops up again. I read a little about this on the Wiki page, but there doesn't seem to be any consensus on what causes it or a reliable way to avoid/workaround it.

I swapped mine out.. they ended up giving me a slightly newer box, with a 160gb harddrive (guessing 18 hours of HD content possible vs say 15 before?).. Unit working ok so far.. except, this unit has No drivers that i can find for any OS.. let alone the one i need for x64 Vista (its the motorola dch3416).

And.. any time a machine cuts off my heroes recording its time to take the axe to that unit i say! I feel your pain.

Based upon my own experience with a 6416 III, turning off the power and unplugging the unit for a spell might set things right so one needn't delete a program that one really wants to keep in order to free up the disc. One will, of course, lose the Guide listings by doing this but, as I have learned, it is a much more rational response to the problem than throwing the unit (and everything attached to it) through the picture window.

It appears that the concensus on this issue is to be prepared by recording several five minute segments of whatever to use for deletions whenever the need arises.

I suggest not leaving the unit tuned to the channel that you want to record. So if for example 'Heroes' is to be broadcast on Channel 24, set the DCT to a channel other than 24.

Addendum 14 December 2008: I have had three 'disc full' errors since posting the above. Two occurred whilst hitting 'record' during chase play and I was able to clear the errors by simply turning the 6416 off for thirty seconds. Unplugging the unit was not required hence the guide listings were not lost.
The third error was the result of my forgetfulness and leaving the 6416 tuned to the channel that a recording was scheduled for. Call this scenario a 'hard error' as even unplugging the unit did not clear it. A recorded program had to be deleted (one of the five minute specials referred to above).

Well now i'm stuck with the dch 3416.. it has the hdmi/component hdcp green screen problem which isnt fixable.. hoping to downgrade to the 6412 or maybe another model by next week (i have to pull the plug when the screen wont come of being green).

Well, now it's October 2007 and I have had this 100% full error on 2 DCT6412s and 1 DCT6416 ongoing now for over a year. Motorola hasn't fixed it yet and I doubt if they are actually doing anything about it. It seems to happen to me only on analogue channels but may be others and the channel has to be on for at least half an hour. Flipping channels beyond and back just before the recording time seems to help. Like the man says keep a bunch of 1 minute junk recordings to delete and don't leave the tuner on a recording channel if you are not watching it. Also I recommend that you call Motorola and also your cable provider frequently. If they think it's not a big deal, or there is a work-around fix? then it won't get done. I hate missing non repeated shows. Good luck all.
