View Full Version : Reign Over Me Is Here!
beatboy77 09-24-07, 10:52 PM I just received Reign Over Me and all I can say is WOW!
Picture Quality - 4.75/5
Audio Quality - 4/5
Special Features - 2/5
Overall - 4.25/5
Comments: I just got through watching Reign Over Me and one word can sum up my feelings, "AWESOME." Dare I say this film rivals Crank or King Kong in PQ? Yes I do! In-terms of PQ this image is as sharp as a razor and colors are stunning and vibrant. There is also just a touch of film grain which enhances the overall feeling of the film. This film is an AVC encode averaging in the low 30 Mbps's. At times I saw it spike above 40 Mbps. In-terms of AQ it was a perfect fit for this movie in my opinion. I watched using the 4.6 Mbps PCM 5.1 option. The Surrounds and LFE were used occasionally but to perfection and the Center Channel reproduced the dialog flawlessly. The featurettes of this release too were quite interesting. It gives you a behind the scenes look at the creation of this film and also a neat "Jam Session" with Adam Sandler and Don Cheadle. Regardless if you are a fan of this film or have never seen it, I highly recommend this purchase.

dalamchops 09-24-07, 11:10 PM such a good movie IMO
shadowrage 09-25-07, 12:33 AM I remember this film now. Sony released it after oscar season right?
What's sandler up to now with that remote control?
IXinchnail 09-25-07, 12:43 AM I was going to buy this awesome movie regardless but I'm glad to hear it's top notch!
charles0424 09-25-07, 01:15 AM Never got a chance to catch it in the movies but sounds like a great buy so I'll definitely be on it on release date.
DigitalfreakNYC 09-25-07, 10:24 AM I HATE HATE HATE Adam Sandler.
I have to admit that this is a pretty damn good movie. I've been debating whether I'll pick it up and I think I will.
Rusty James 09-25-07, 10:28 AM I dunno. I thought this movie was incredibly facile and hackneyed. The whole subplot with Liv Tyler's character - UGH. I'd much prefer Punch-Drunk Love on Blu-ray.
beatboy77 09-25-07, 04:24 PM Not only is the PQ really good on this one, the story is superb as well :)

What other movie would you compare this to story wise? I'm wondering about a blind buy and if its up my alley.
Moorebid 09-25-07, 05:33 PM There is also just a touch of film grain which enhances the overall feeling of the film. That's interesting, seeing as how it was shot on Panavision Genesis HD camera's (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0490204/technical); even the trailer looked like HD video.
Been looking forward to this one for awhile… it's been at the top of me queue since its originally-announced July 24th release date. :)
This movie is a must-buy for me. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Blu-ray has quite the stacked line-up for the fourth quarter. Makes me confident in the format.

Sorry but I hated this movie, the longest 2 hours of my life.
drag0nreb0rn 09-25-07, 10:01 PM I have been waiting for this release since the day I saw the film in the theaters. By far one of my favorite movies of the year and thats saying a lot because there were some kick ass movies this year.
Drag'nGT 10-08-07, 08:50 PM I'll be getting this tomorrow when it's released. :)
Now I'm waiting on the new Full Metal Jacket and Spidey movie.
Glad to read that you chose the AVC option on this disc.
drag0nreb0rn 10-08-07, 09:14 PM I have been waiting a long time for this one.
Johnsteph10 10-08-07, 09:18 PM Glad to read that you chose the AVC option on this disc.
Now, that is funny. :D:D
whippersnapper 10-08-07, 09:37 PM Does anyone else find it hilarious (to say nothing about soooo transparent) that folks who clearly favor (judging from a review of their posting history) the HD-DVD format routinely come over to a Blu-ray software area and, seeing a review of a movie that just happens to be Blu-ray exclusive, proceed to post words to the effect that they've seen the movie, that it sucks and is most definitely not worth a purchase.
It's so predictible and amusing. I guess I'll go order this one.
DigitalfreakNYC 10-08-07, 09:39 PM I clearly favor HD DVD and will be picking this one up (as much as I hate that Sony was involved with it :) )
whippersnapper 10-08-07, 09:40 PM I HATE HATE HATE Adam Sandler.
I have to admit that this is a pretty damn good movie. I've been debating whether I'll pick it up and I think I will. And Digital, it's your honesty here that made me decide to get this one. And, by the way, I "hate" Adam Sandler's "acting" also.

Don't blame the messenger!!! :)
Random trivia: Adam and I had the same acting teacher. :)

Random trivia: Adam and I had the same acting teacher. :)That's funny. I hope the instruction "took" on you better than it did on Sandler.:)
GamerGuyX_GGX 10-08-07, 11:58 PM lol. I have nothing against Adam Sandler as an actor at all. I think he's great. :D
Innerloop 10-09-07, 12:23 AM What other movie would you compare this to story wise? I'm wondering about a blind buy and if its up my alley.
From the trailer (haven't seen the film) it seemed like the same basic story as "The Fisher King" but a bit more grounded.
joe_six_pack 10-09-07, 12:29 AM I've seen some pretty good reviews about the movie (the movie, not pq/aq), so I'll give it a whirl. Also, it'll be interesting to see adam sandler's acting for once instead of his slapstick comedies.
Just watched this tonight. it's a very good movie, better than i thought it would be. this movie is easily tier 0. it's so sharp and detailed. sony delivered the goods yet again. the best looking release i've seen in awhile. of course I haven't seen nature's journey yet so I'm sure that can change.
williamtassone 10-10-07, 06:55 AM Saw this last night. Easily Sandlers most imporatant role and he aced it.
Its a sad/important movie so you dont focus on the transfer as you soon become immersed in the story.
I'd rate it as a tier 1 (assuming stuff like Pirates or Spiderman 3 are Tier 0)
Was it just me, or did the picture seem to be pretty grainy at times? Did anyone else notice this? I found it especially grainy towards the end when they were at the Chinese restaurant. I do assume that this was part of the disc transfer?
Chief Brody 10-10-07, 03:10 PM I bought the UK release back in August and really enjoyed it (same specs and everything). Strange how the theatrical window has been so long on this one, it was out in theaters way back in March i think.
mdc3000 10-10-07, 03:29 PM I'm surprised this is getting good PQ reviews because when I saw it at the theatre it was dull, flat and grainy as hell, one of the uglier looking movies I remember seeing in a while. I thought the movie was average at best (too long, useless subplots) but I'll maybe give it another shot on disc.

i thought the opposite of the film. I thought it was a fantastic movie and one of my most anticipated releases on blu ray. I could be bias being from new york but the 9-11 situation to me I feel hits new yorkers harder than anyone else especially considering I knew people who did lose loved ones in the tragedy so it made me realize what Adam goes through in the movie isnt far off of what so many others are going through.
when first hearing of this movie I was a bit upset with movies being made about 9-11 but they simply got the emotions right. Sandler did a great job who I never took serious until this film and Don Cheadle as always is amazing. I am glad to own this movie.
