I am looking to setup my new HT system and need some advice. I have Yamaha Receiver HTR-6090 (120watt x 7)
I am considering to setup Paradigm set as below:
Front: Monitor 11
Center: CC-290 (120 watt)
Surround: ADP-390 (120 watt)
or
Front: Monitor 11
Center: CC-190 (80 watt)
Surround: ADP-190 (80 watt)
I am going to bi-wire the front and get some more bass. So, I will keep my Boston Acoustic XB6 sub to go with them instead of getting PS-1000 or PS-1200 sub.
What do you think about the set? Any alternative I should consider? I hope to get a set that is good for both movie and music.
Appreciate any advice or comment
Thank you!
Bi-wiring won't give you more bass. I suggest that you get the bigger centre speaker. Smaller surrounds won't make much difference for movies but the better centre might.
Get the Monitor 9sV5 and the CC-290 and the smaller surrounds. I think the 9s sounded smoother than the 11s. This will save you the $ you need to get the larger CC. That will give you the best bang for your buck.
Thanks everyone! Look like the best match would be below then:
Monitor 9
CC-290
ADP-190
If I bi-wiring, I will lose 2 surround rear and cannot get 6.1 or 7.1, but I think it is worth the sound quality. Different opinion?
Should I replace my XB6 with PS-1200 or do you think I can just live with it? DO you think it would make much different?
I'd keep your current sub, and if you think you want better bass later, investigate SVS or HSU or Velodyne. I have a Paradigm sub, and they're good, but the value for a given price is much better with these specialist companies.

You are talking about (passive) bi-amping, not bi-wiring.

sern99,
Do not take our word on it. Because of 1 post you switched from monitor 11s to 9s, without even hearing the speakers (or so i presume). I auditioned 11's vs. 9s (moving up from 7s) and I preferred the tighter bass of the 11's compared to the boomy 9's (larger woofer). Any low end would be taken care of by a subwoofer. But of course, you want to make sure it works with your mains nicely. (this is of course just my opinion)
I agree with another poster in that the channel should take priority over the surrounds. How much information really comes from the surrounds, and with the case of the ADP, a lot of it is reflected sound (including your room set-up).
In my case I went with the 11s v4, C-370, and ADP-170 and have been really happy with my set-up (Although I admit I look on EBay for a deal on ADP-370s).
Of course, I heard my brother-in-law's JM Labs set-up and wanted to scrap mine.
The monitor 9 version 3 and 4 did have a larger woofer (I have monitor 11 version 4) but with version 5 this is no longer the case.

As Luap posted the 9s now have smaller woofers. I assumed that the OP was going to buy new speakers, therefore thats what I was speaking of.
