I'm looking at getting TiVo, but am wanting to verify some things first. First off my cable box is manufactured by Myrio. Here is the link to the description of the unit. http://www.myrio.com/products/myrioi.shtml The input cable that comes into the box is an RJ-45 network cable. The box has a couple different outputs. One S-video and an AV output. I cannot find any literature online about configurations of this unit with TiVo. I want to verify that a TiVo will work with my cable box. And if so, will the TiVo's Tuner allow for the changing of channels from my TiVo. I am sort of a newbie when it comes to TV Tuners so any help would be GREATLY appriciated! Thanks!
The Series-2 Tivo's have a network plug on the back. My cable comes in thru an RJ-45 plug into my cable box. If I bypass my cable box and run the network cable into a TiVo box, can the Tivo unit act as a receiver? Or is that port only for use with connecting to a PC?

The serial port in the TiVo is for use with very specific cable boxes (I cannot recall which), and is used solely to change channels... nothing else.
To answer your connection inquiry, you'll need to indicate which TiVo you plan on purchasing. I have three, and each has a different set of input ports.
I plan to purchase the "TiVo R54080 Series2 Digital Video Recorder," My cable box also has a USB port on it, along with the SPDIF and S-video ports.

Generally, USB ports don't do much on cable boxes.
That TiVo has the following inputs: Composite x 1 • S-Video x 1 • Analog Audio x 1 • RF (TV) x 1
So the SPDIF port on your cable box won't do you any good in concert with the TiVo.
So basically you'd connect the cable box to your TiVo, S-Video out to S-Video in, and RCA out to RCA in.
The big question is whether or not the TiVo knows how to drive a Myrio cable box via its included IR emitters, and what kind of enclosure you need to construct for your cable box to get the IR emitters to work properly. That I'm not sure about. Hopefully someone with a Myrio will see this thread and answer.

You should ask on tivocommunity.com. That's a more appropriate place and someone might know the answer there. (I have several Tivos but no cable boxes.)
As someone else said though, the only control options are: IR blasters and for some cable boxes, serial control.
