I have a PS3 and I am currently running content through TVersity to my PS3. I would like to be able to use my computer at the same times as I watch something. Currently I cannot because my computer runs very slow when TVersity is running.

If I were to buy a media server that had a hard drive, would my PS3 recognize it? I know I would have to format it to FAT32 in order for it to recognize it. Also would it be able to stream files to my PS3.

I have a WD 500GB external HDD. Are their any media servers that are not compatible with my external HDD? Would it be worth buying a DVR/Media Streamer and replace my Comcast cable box with it?

I know that I can stream them to my TV as well, but via the PS3 it can upconvert somethings into HD.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried asking over at the Playstation forum?

I have posted in another forum in the Playstation Area and I have not gotten a reply there yet. So I thought that this forum might help me get my questions answered.

U can buy a HP mediaVault, which has built-in DNLA server. PS3 recognize it.

I am also looking to have an output other then my PS3 as well so I can run a cable to my bedroom and my wife can watch things that are stored on it when I am watching football all weekend. I have looked at the HP Media Vaults and they do not have that choice of output.

Do you know if TVersity runs on it? I assume the built-in DNLA does not do transcoding, so I'd like to use TVersity ... just not sure if it supports Windows Server.

Also, anyone know if it supports Wake on Lan? I'd imagine a Windows-based media server is pretty power hungry ... I wouldn't want it on all the time.

yeah, i've thought about this from time to time. if you want transcoding then you need a dedicated server, or if you format everything so that the ps3 can read them natively then you can use a regular nas. if ps3 could play back xvid and divx, this problem would be much much of less pain in the ass.
