I am curious and trying to get a perspective. How many HDM titles are sold per week? Will it be more than just one title on the #2 console that cost 2x more?

View Full Version : Which will sell more this week Halo 3 or All HDM titles? Everdog 09-25-07, 10:14 AM I am curious and trying to get a perspective. How many HDM titles are sold per week? Will it be more than just one title on the #2 console that cost 2x more? Lee Stewart 09-25-07, 10:17 AM They already have 1.5 million pre-orders. So no contest. http://www.afterdawn.com/news/archive/11228.cfm filthy6 09-25-07, 10:19 AM Halo 3. No Contest. ack_bk 09-25-07, 10:19 AM Halo 3 may sell more copies in 2007 than all HDM sales combined :) Everdog 09-25-07, 10:23 AM They already have 1.5 million pre-orders. So no contest. http://www.afterdawn.com/news/archive/11228.cfm How many HDM titles are sold per week? Do we know? Wow, 1.5 million pre-orders. Sony needs to get into that business. Oh wait.:D Bailey151 09-25-07, 10:25 AM Halo 3 may sell more copies in 2007 than all HDM sales combined :) One might even say Halo 3 will sell more this week than HDM will for all of 2007 :D cuco33 09-25-07, 10:27 AM Halo 3. No Contest. +1 Everdog 09-25-07, 10:31 AM One might even say Halo 3 will sell more this week than HDM will for all of 2007 :D I guess that puts things in perspective. One title that sells for $60 on the 2nd best selling game console vs. All HDM titles over several months. The game wins even before it comes out with 1.5 million. I think we still have a while before people (besides me!) start to take HDM seriously. chad473 09-25-07, 10:52 AM I passed by the g4 coverage last night and they were predicting 2 million sold today, 4 million by the end of October. I have to think that would be more than HDM since inception. GregApple 09-25-07, 10:53 AM LOL HALO 3!!! Even I bought it. :D coolhand 09-25-07, 11:15 AM I think we still have a while before people (besides me!) start to take HDM seriously. People also have to take gaming more seriously. I am not a gamer but it is as big an industry as MOVIES are. I have several HD channels through Dish. One of them is GameHD where you watch people play video games. In some countries their video game champions are like sports heroes. More money is spent on gaming than at the Box Office. Halo 3 may well become one of the biggest games ever. Halo 3 is $60 (and there are some other more expensive versions too). 8M sales would put it at almost 500 Million, more than any movie (outside of Titanic) has ever made at the domestic box office. Jonto81 09-25-07, 11:18 AM One might even say Halo 3 will sell more this week than HDM will for all of 2007 :D To be honest with you Halo 3 will sell more copies in 1 day than all HDM to date (as long as they have the availability) namechamps 09-25-07, 11:26 AM To be honest with you Halo 3 will sell more copies in 1 day than all HDM to date (as long as they have the availability) +1 Funny thing is I think Bioshock is the superior game. Noggin1980 09-25-07, 11:36 AM The BDA have commented that they have sold over 2 million blu-ray movies, so we must be way over 3 million movies HD-DVD and Blu-ray combined. So Halo 3 is unlikely to sell more than that in the first week. But I would think if we compare total Halo 3 sales at the end of the year vs Blu-ray and HD-DVD total sales for this year they would be close. Since we are likely about to have a very big quarter 4 though I'd still expect Hi def media to win that battle unless more than 40% of 360 owners buy halo 3. AbSynth 09-25-07, 11:51 AM Halo 3 may sell more copies in 2007 than all HDM sales combined :) sad but true. it is somewhat deserving though. http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbox360/halo3#critics note: 4.5 million copies in stores worldwide. you can bet they'll sell out supply by the end of the month. bboisvert 09-25-07, 11:53 AM The BDA have commented that they have sold over 2 million blu-ray movies, so we must be way over 3 million movies HD-DVD and Blu-ray combined. 3.7 million total between both formats (since inception) as of Aug. 1. So we're probably a bit over 4 million at this point. UxiSXRD 09-25-07, 11:57 AM c) all DVD movie titles Point? This thread is irrelevent and probably belongs in the xbox forum. MichaelHDDVD 09-25-07, 12:36 PM Halo 3 will probably sell more today than all HD DVD + Blu-Ray movies combined for the past 5 months. boomster 09-25-07, 12:48 PM +1 Funny thing is I think Bioshock is the superior game. Played Bioshock, it was cool. But Halo 3 really shouldn't be judged since it just came out. You probably haven't had the chance to play it yet. Once that happens then you can state which is superior ;) And I think Halo 3 will sell more in one day, then HD media this whole year so far. wildfire99 09-25-07, 06:19 PM So how many copies of a Halo movie would sell on HDM? :) That is, if anyone ever manages to make it. I guess that's a good symbol of the different ways in which the game industry works and how the movie industry (doesn't) works. josephmckinney 09-25-07, 07:10 PM Halo 3 will probably sell more today than all HD DVD + Blu-Ray movies combined for the past 5 months.Nice Sig Mike:D ottscay 09-25-07, 07:12 PM Halo 3. Unless there is a tragic mas-truck bombing that destroys 2/3rds of shipped copies of Halo 3 before they reach stores... Milt99 09-25-07, 07:14 PM FWIW, latest I heard for Halo3 sales was 1.5 mil pre-order, 300k+ additional today, total 1.8 mil so far. Not bad. Dahlsim 09-25-07, 07:16 PM Played Halo 3 a bit some last night. So far it almost lives up to the hype. Really gives your HT setup a spin on both PQ and AQ. Hd dvd group would have been smart to create a promotional tie-in to the addon... metalsaber 09-25-07, 07:18 PM Like there was any doubt. nfinity 09-25-07, 07:19 PM More Xbox 360s out there more potential HD DVD owners. If HD DVD player add-ons go down to $129 or $100 this holiday you'll see HD DVD number of add-ons go RAPIDLY up.. Btw, it has been estimated that Halo 3 will be sold in about 4 million copies. briankmonkey 09-25-07, 07:27 PM Halo 3 by far, the install base is over 10 million and Halo 3 is pretty much the most hyped and marketed (I wonder what the budget is, lol) game in video game history. I played some last night and it is a solid title worth owning. I don't feel it lives up to the hype but granted the hype is insane for the game. If you're a Halo fan you'll enjoy it no doubt. Graphics and lighting are very good in the campaign mode so far (can be done in 4-6 hours) and it feels more like Halo:CE than Halo 2 which IMO is a good thing. MP Graphics feel like Halo HD, nothing spectacular. Music in the campaign is good but the sound effects on the guns are underwhelming compared to other titles, surprised that they lack oomph to them (I'ver read quite a few other posts sharing the same feelings on that). If you liked Halo:CE online you'll like Halo 3, its pretty much evolved from that with some new elements. If you weren't a fan before you probably still will not like it. They also have good stat keeping at bungie.com which is pretty cool, so I can see how many rounds I played last night through my gamerag. You can also save pictures, etc. Evan_H 09-25-07, 10:16 PM How many HDM titles are sold per week? Do we know? Funny how that information isn't well known in an HDM forum. In videogame forums, any hardcore fan knows the hard numbers for his favorite system. And there are sites like http://www.vgchartz.com/ that track weekly and monthly sales. We know that the Wii is selling better than the PS2 at this part of its lifecycle, we know that the 360 has a better attach rate than the original XBox. But here, all that's usually posted are vague percentages comparing Blu-Ray to HD DVD that give no indication of overall HDM growth. No one seems to want to discuss HDM growth, only Blu-Ray verses HD-DVD. Is it because HDM sales are embarassingly low? kevinca1 09-25-07, 10:20 PM Halo is a game it belongs in gaming area. |
