Hello,

I am getting a 5 channel amp that I will use to bi-amp my speakers (VR4s). I'll use the remaining channel for the center. I'd like to make sure I'm doing this properly as I'm new to bi-amping. I got some helpful responses in another post that I have totally sidetracked so I'm starting a new thread based on the help I've gotten.

Apparenly I need to get a Y splitter to go from my preamp to my amp so that I can use two channels for each of the front speakers. I want to make sure I'm using a quality splitter so I don't degrade something in an attempt to improve it. I checked out Monster and Audioquest cables because they are the most common but didn't find anything on bluejean's site either about splitters for this purpose.

Can anyone help out a newbie a little further.

Thanks

I use plain old Gold series splitters from Rat Shack but folks spend what they want.

Obviously I also don't spend a fortune on wiring or interconnects. Too esoteric for me.

Just make sure to get matching types. Meaning decide where you want the split to occur...pre-pro end or amp end. Makes a difference as the former requires a single male and two female connectors...the latter just the opposite.

Edited for content :)

Thanks - I appreciat it. I think I'll go crazy and spend a little more for better ones if they are available but since I haven't seen them anywhere so far maybe I'll end up going that route.

I've gotten some info from a couple of sources suggesting I'd be better off using cross over connections - again not sure where to go to get good stuff.

You won't go wrong with anything from Cobalt. (http://www.cobaltcable.com/y_splitter_cable.htm)

Additionally you don't need or want an external crossover. Check out this link. (http://www.sonicfrontiers.com/HTML/TechnicalSupport/TechSupport.html#5)

I got info back from the designer of the speakers - he says it has all the crossover equipment on board so I should just go with a decent splitter between my preamp and amp. I have a pair of the monster ones (that honestly I had no idea what they were for - must have come with some piece of equipment I bought over the years) although they both look black - not red or blue -
