Well I know of one reviewer who has finished his review (not yet published) and reportedly he is buying the machine. Another reviewer (but one who is not doing a review on the Sony) based on the reviewer's comments to him just ordered one from me. Don't ask, I am not a liberty to reveal either reviewer's name.

I'm thinking of doing a stack.

I put a comment on that thread. It seems like Jus would give a 1000 word essay answer to "how old are you?".

I should be doing a official review of this fella soon if all things go well, mind you it may not be for everyone because it will have a very strong emphasis on "vs CRT" ;)

Yea. A stack. What's so funny? I watch sports and want bright on my 110D 1.3 gain screen. A stack is real cheap. Under $7K fo me with 2 projectors and a stacking mount kit.

Explain to someone being lazy and not searching the forum what you get in output from stacking two 1000 lumen projectors? Is it 2000 lumens, or is it more like audio and is only a percentage brighter when the light is doubled?

You double the ft-lamberts. Assume you end up with about 350 real ANSI fom a single 60 when viewing an average scene on a 110D 1.3 gain. That gives you about 13 ft lamberts. Nice, very nice, for a movie. Sports in real life are very bright. Stack. 26 ft-lamberts. Of course you don't perceive the brightness doubling with a stack. But sports will approach like being there.

Worth it to me for say $4K more.

Jason,

Is it better than the RS1?

Thanks,

I'll have my review up tonight...

can't wait. tops reviewers online imho.

Mark: 350ansi lumens you're kidding right ? it should be brighter first impressions say
i agree the 50 wasn't very bright. the HD1 was a lot brigther compared

if one wants a real gunner on a 170" screen, there's no alternative than C3X 2K for instance or a RUNCO.
it's up to what each's ftl preferences (12FTL or25FTL ?)

ANNSI lumens at 1000 is a maximum 100ire spec. I watch actual content. Assume 50 IRE average. Bulb aging, light loss through non constant aperture lens at 1.6 throw. I think 350 is a very good guess. I won't be far off after say 300 hours bulb use.

You can't conclude one is better in general. It depends on what qualities are more important to you than others.

Mark, you can say that about anything...I don't think you will find a projector in the "same" price range (are they even?) be completely superior to another in every category.

hey i dont believe either 1000ansi :D
but if it can output 500ansi that would be great at G 2.2 and D65 !
we all know how fast lumens disappear on all machines
even the VW100 couldn't output more thant 300 340ansi calibrated (damn silent cooling and "block" xenon)

Elm. I agree. One can conclude, rightly or wrongly, which one they think is best for themselves or someone else, but no one can say one is best except meybe Consumer Reports. :)

Jason,

looks like the Black Pearl has >1.5 x to > 2x the native on/off CR of the Pearl you reviewed last year. It also appears to have 30% less light output?

You talked about increased sharpness. Would you a agree with Jus that the Black Pearl is now clearly sharper than the RS1?

How does the lack of noise compare to the other 1080P pj?

It sounds like the RPC is now a full CMS, with the ability to dial in very accurate colors?

Any bright corners or obvious shading issues?

Shading was very good...about what I have found for the better LCOS units I have tested. I didn't notice any bright corners.

I would NOT say that the VW60 is clearly sharper than the RS1. But, I also haven't played with an RS1 at the same time (or even recently). It did not stand out as so (although I would say it is similar).

Remember also, EVERY projector varies. I have tested tons of RS1's for instance and I have had light output ranging from low 400's to over 800. Contrast I have had vary from ~7000:1 to almost 20000:1. Always keep that in mind.
