View Full Version : Do your wives/girlfriends notice HD?
nickoakdl 09-26-07, 12:39 AM I have to ask this because I have mixed reactions from my girlfriend. She has said that she can honestly not tell the difference between HDM and regular DVDs. Then I think she saw the hurt in my eyes and said "Well the colors are stronger," but I think she only said that because she has heard me say it before and didn't want to break my heart.
And before anyone asks about my set-up, I have:
Mitsubishi HD1000 running at 720p on a 100" screen. I also have an add-on for my 360 running through VGA. With this, the difference between HD DVDs and DVDs is night and day.
Edit: I didn't make this public, but I did give multiple choices because in my case my girlfriend says "yes," but I think she is lying, and she has also said she could care less.
eapleitez 09-26-07, 12:41 AM Yeah, my wife can. And she needs glasses!
My first post, I cant get away from this site. Awesome, but makes me want to buy more stuff.
Anyway, my wife said she can tell the difference but she could care less. I have to remind her to DVR the shows on the HiDef channels rather then the SD ones. She doesn't care but I care, plus we're paying for it.
Timothy Ramzyk 09-26-07, 01:23 AM No, but my "boyfriend" of 14 years does. ;)
MovieSwede 09-26-07, 01:30 AM My wife couldnt see the the diffeence, but when we watch Jaws on DVD a couple of days ago, she said what grainy the movie is.
I replaid thats not grain, its videonoise from the upconversion.
Some days later we watched 300, and she replied, thats movie is also grainy. Well I replied, well thats the way it should look.
nickoakdl 09-26-07, 01:46 AM No, but my "boyfriend" of 14 years does. ;)
Sorry, should have said significant other. Either way, I don't understand why my girlfriend does not get it. Just be lucky your boyfriend does. I guess in her defense my projector can be off the screen by half a foot and she will be happy reguardless. In a sense I am jealous.
MovieSwede 09-26-07, 01:54 AM Well its the same for them when it comes to furnitures and haircuts. We dont get the difference either.
I think its based that guys only can see 256 different types of colors. Mango is a fruit not a color.
nickoakdl 09-26-07, 02:00 AM Mango is a fruit not a color.
No kidding. They say my car is maroon, but I could swear it is red.

Hey no-prob, at least ya didn't snicker.
Seeing it is one thing, thinking it's a good use of my resources is another. In fact I frequently get
"I don't care about it, stop wasting so much time on line arguing about it. It's not like you have stock in HD DVD or something. You're getting way to involved in something that doesn't matter that much, It is so boring to hear about it daily."
Still jealous? Actually, my partner thinks it's cool to watch, but dull to talk about more than a few minutes per week. He tells our friends it's pretty neat too. I'm sure I am obsessive beyond endurance plenty of times.
My friends on the other hand look at me like I'm trying to sell them life-insurance when I talk about it even a little.
ResOGlas 09-26-07, 02:09 AM No, but my "boyfriend" of 14 years does. ;)

briankmonkey 09-26-07, 02:26 AM Yup, AQ and PQ. She keeps reminding me to Galapagos when it hits. Definitely a keeper as she puts up with my home theater hobby :)
She first impressed me back in the day when I was running Energy C-3's through her PC normally using iTunes for a particular song. One day I brought the CD down from upstairs and played the same song. She asked what I did to make it sound better. I wasn't aware that you could transfer them above the 128kb back then either.
wormraper 09-26-07, 03:00 AM my wife immediately can tell the difference. I bought my A2 and Batman begins. to justify my expenditure I a/b'd batman begins HD and the DVD version. Her jaw was on the floor. Now she doesn't like to watch DVD if the HD DVD version is out there.
mswoods1 09-26-07, 03:09 AM I like how the thread assumes everyone here is a guy. Do women not have HT obsessions? Why not? :(
You know in HD, I bet it's a lot easier to find flaws in other women. :p
My girlfriend was very much impressed by the PQ on TMNT, she didn't really mention anything when we watched 300 and Training Day, though.
My mom was also WOWed when I showed her a scene from King Kong.
Carnivore 09-26-07, 03:19 AM Wrong cliché, funnyman. It should be "COULDN'T care less".
Think about it, the correct version of this phrase means that it would be impossible to care any less because you do not care at all. But by transforming the negative into a positive you are telling us that your level of caring is above the minimum. Perhaps it's even at its maximum, making this misuse of the English language that much more tragic since it now means the exact opposite of what you were attempting to convey.
My wife could care less about her shoe collection, in fact she loves it.

If people want to engage in blu-ray in the privacy of their own home that's their business, but I just don't think the rest of us need to be exposed to that sort of thing. :);)

:D
You know, I used to be HD DVD exclusive. When I came out and told my mother that I prefer Blu-ray, she cried. :(
My dad still thinks I'm an HD DVD guy. I really don't have the heart to tell him.

Its the damn TVs fault...
I spoiled my nieces and nephews (kids and pre-teens) in HD when they visit. They learn a lot from me. They always ask their parents to buy WIDESCREEN DVDs or BD or HD DVD if they can. They hate full screen movies.
Remember the recently relese High School Musical 2 that was on HD from D*? The kids did not watch it for couple of weeks until they get to visit me. I was able to record it on HD. Even tough Disney has been showing it non-stop. Yep LOTS of pressure for me to deliver.
My SO doesn't care at all  She said they all look the same to her.
da808fokai 09-26-07, 04:12 AM Amazingly my gf does... We actually just bought our first 1080p set (Sharp's 52" 64u) last week, and she paid half of it. I guess I got lucky?

Congrats, and welcome to the forum. Be sure to properly calibrate your display, and have fun! :)
Wrong cliché, funnyman. It should be "COULDN'T care less".
Yeah, I just read my post and cought that. "Could care less" means that it is possible to care less.
Ryan Peddle 09-26-07, 08:47 AM I need a 5th option of "yes, she definitely can, but just doesn't care if it is in HD or not".
Everdog 09-26-07, 08:51 AM My wife notices HD, but it is not a big deal to her.
I think we should also ask about lossless audio too. My wife cares ZERO about that. She prefers the darn TV speakers!
hammie34 09-26-07, 08:54 AM I need a 5th option of "yes, she definitely can, but just doesn't care if it is in HD or not".
I second this one as well.

First Timothy's post, and then this one... I have to get back to cleaning my monitor now! :D
Missions 09-26-07, 09:15 AM My girlfriend hates that I've upgraded to Blu-ray. She thinks DVD is good enough. In fact, she hates how bright and clear HD is. She says it gives her a headache. Moreover, my 52" Samsung flat screen annoys her the most. It's too big and an eye soar. She'd be happy with a 20" CRT television.
When I told her that I'm thinking of going neutral with the purchase of an HD DVD player, it led to a fight about how I've fallen victim to consumerism.
I have a Toshiba XA2 HD DVD player and a Samsung LNT4665F HDTV. In the case of HD vs. SD DVD "movie" video PQ, the degree of "discernible" difference between an HD and SD movie depends on the upconversion capabilities of your HD DVD player and the quality of the disk. In my case, my XA2 player has a Reon-VX chip, so the SD video upconversion is superior to HD DVD players with upconversion of lesser quality. There is so little difference between SD and HD DVD movies, there really is no "practical" reason for me to buy duplicate HD DVD movies. It does not bother me that some people do not notice the difference. In the case of SD vs. HDTV, there is a much greater difference in PQ that even a casual viewer would immediately find obvioius. If others don't see a difference, they are visually or possibly even mentally impaired.
Are you kidding, my girl demands it now she has become such HD whore, at the same time quite the crusader for HD, when she goes to friends and family she brags about how better is a HD over SD....
My other girl couldnt careless:)
DJoel
A few of my exes say they couldn't see the difference, but they always wanted to watch movies at my place. It's just that inate "he pays more attention to the little electronic boxes than he does to me" crap. Trust me, they see the difference, they just don't care about anything that keeps you from paying attention to them. :D
Want proof they can tell the difference? My 74 year old mother spent a half hour on the phone complaining to Comcast a couple weeks back. Her HD box was giving her fits and she let them have it in spades. She told them in no uncertain terms that if she's "going to pay extra for HD, then she wanted her Red Sox games in HD, dammit!!" They had a tech out to replace the box with a brand new model the next day.
Now if my dad were still alive, I guarantee she'd have told him "it's just a stupid game, watch it on regular TV."

I figured that by now there would be at least a few voices heard from the distaff side. Oh well, I care about HD, but my husband is not nearly as fussy as I am. I wouldn't say I'm obsessed, though - sometimes y'all scare me.

Honestly, I would like to know how many women are here. I never envision a female author of a any posts in this forum, so it would be interesting to know the %.
Rachael Bellomy 09-26-07, 11:34 AM I'm thinkin' about becoming a lesbian so I can participate in this thread.....;)
nekkibasara 09-26-07, 11:50 AM Mine can't see the difference. Even when A/B switiching between TV channels she can't see an improvement between the SD version of House and the HD version (same goes for every TV show we watch).
I have a feeling she is lying, because her eyes can't be that bad can they?
BTW, we sit 6 feet from a 32" 768p Samy LCD.
My GF likes HD. She hasn't yet and probably never will get to the point where only HD will do but she can definitely tell the difference and prefers HD. She's a big sports fan and loves the HD broadcasts.
nick1091 09-26-07, 11:54 AM My wife is coming around. She really didn't seem to notice at first, but she's been more and more aware of the differences as time went on.
When Cars was announced to release in November, she insisted we pick it up on BD, even though we have the SD version. That's the first time I've heard her actually care to double-dip, although since then she also said she has to have Moulin Rogue on BD once Fox gets around to releasing it.
scottro 09-26-07, 12:05 PM Looks like I've got some catching up to do. I've finally got her trained to go to the HD channels first, 3 years later...but I'm still working on the virtues of movies on high definition discs. I doubt it will ever be enough of a difference to her...she is a JANE SIXPACK.
But she does get pissed when our CBS affiliate doesn't "flip the switch" for the Steelers game in HD.
Eh, one thing at a time, I thought it was a huge victory to get her to use the surround sound (thanks to the idiot proof Harmony remote).
I like how the thread assumes everyone here is a guy. Do women not have HT obsessions? Why not? :(

Based on these polls I did here within the AVS HDM forum, females are VERY MUCH the minority. :(

coolhand 09-26-07, 12:21 PM I had my mom over for movies a few weeks ago. For reference she has a 12 year-old 25" TV that just KILLS my eyes. We watched an HD DVD and afterwards watched Ebert and Roeper at the movies (sd). She thought she had taken her glasses off. She could not believe the difference. She was talking about it for 10 minutes. I just laughed.
Hmmm, M vs. F?? I guess it's the same ratio you'd find at a comics convention, a Star Wars convention or a Star Trek convention. Conversely, it is the opposite of what you'd find at a Tupperware party, a Prada unveiling or a Bridal convention.
BZiggyZ 09-26-07, 12:25 PM I demo'd King Kong for my wife. She said it looked great but since she'd never seen it on DVD or in theaters, she had nothing to compare it to. When we watched Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory, a movie we've seen a zillion times, she IMMEDIATELY noticed how much better it looked in HD.
How many girls do you have? ;)
Hmmm :eek:Who is this?????

Does that mean one of us has to wear boots? ;)
IMO, hi-def sports will drive the lemmings to hi-def media. Go sports! Kickoff! Go-ooooo-al! See the three, be the three! A few seasons of the NFL in high-def will work wonders at raising PQ expectations amongst civilians, including wives & GF's & joe.
manikin 09-26-07, 12:47 PM Recently She has started noticing the difference. The key was upconverting something that she was intimately familiar with. A couple of weeks ago I upconverted one of the baby Einstein series DVDs. She walked into the room and commented how sharp the picture looked, and finally had to agree that "yes even she could notice the difference between SD, and HD"
Moral: Some times the "No" is just to push a few buttons. :p
I voted "No, she could care less" but the reality is she couldn't care less.
My wife can tell but she doesn't share my enthusiasm for it.
She does want to get some titles she likes in HD DVD though.
She'll read this forum when I leave a page up but I don't know if she'll ever care enough to post.
I voted "No, she could care less" but the reality is she couldn't care less.Yeah that one bugs me a little too. Almost as much as irregardless does.
There is also a local expression "not for nothing" which I dislike.
Sorry for the off topic post. :o
boomster 09-26-07, 01:29 PM My life partner can (boyfriend) ;)
Woodshed 09-26-07, 01:31 PM On TV broadcasts, yes. On HDM, not so much.
GrilledCheese 09-26-07, 01:50 PM HDTV gets the glory in my house, with my wife and also guests. Football especially. "Wow, that looks amazing". HD movies, not so much. "Oh, that's a bit sharper than the DVD".

That's funny, for a minute I was like "Hey, I need to show ya picture, because there's no way I pass for a woman"
Still what's also funny is there are probably significantly more gay men than women here. It's making me me curious, given their rarity, how our women participants come by their interest in this stuff? I actually feel a little atypical of most men here in that my background involves little or no "science" whatsoever. I'm not a programmer of in tech-sales, I'm a visual designer who is usually only tech savvy enough to do my work or get the most out of my entertainment devices.
Lingering here has taught me more than I would have ever known just having an HD set-up, but it's just for funzies with no career overlap.
So women, how'd ya come by this interest?
cdub1972 09-26-07, 02:45 PM That's hilarious! Absolutely not is the answer for my wife. Thank you for the good laugh!!
tlrowley 09-26-07, 02:47 PM Does that mean one of us has to wear boots? ;)
Boots are okay - if somewhat warm in CA! I do wear Birkenstocks, though, does that count? I am NOT getting the androgynous haircut, that'll have to be you. ;)
Back on topic, I would have jumped into Blu-ray, even with my profile 1.0/1.1/2.0 reservations, if Sony had carried through with the announced release of Sense & Sensibility. As it is, Notting Hill will have to be girly enough for me....
Amiable-Akuma 09-26-07, 02:58 PM I voted the 2nd option - in actuality though its a case of "she notices HD fairly well, yet prefers SD DVD only very, very, very slightly less".
In other words, she likes HD picture but in general could care less about its true AV benefits. She's more interested in the content itself (which is why she is perfectly fine with SD).
The only other "unique" thing I think she likes about HD players is the status symbol aspect of it. She likes being able to say her friends still haven't caught on to this latest technology and that she's "higher class" because she owns the formats. Or something like that.
I think you know what I mean. Dumb, huh? Yep...but that's women...(when it comes to this stuff)...

Wife noticing HD? I can't even get her to watch the 65" Mitsubishi HDTV! She's happy to watch a 11" standard TV from 20 feet away! Since guys are usually the ones excited about HDTV and surround sound from what I've seen, it makes me wonder what the male versus female ratio is on the desire to have the theatre experience at home. I may be wrong, but it kind of supports the idea that men's brains focus more on visual stimulus, and women focus more on emotional stimulus. What do you think?

Not dumb at all. It goes along with my sayings:
- Men are the most competive gender, except for the other one . . .
and
- Men compete on the athletic field, women compete everywhere else . . .
:D

I have a sister who I bring movies to all the time. I usually stay to watch with her and her kids. The kids and I like the theater experience, but my sister has actually said to me "Turn it down, I can't hear anything."
WirelessGuru 09-26-07, 03:34 PM Yes... she notices the stuttering that occurs on occasion and how much longer it takes to start watching compared to DVD.
MikeAnderson 09-26-07, 03:45 PM I voted no she couldn't care less. She did "notice" when I tried to sneak in the A2 (replacing an Oppo) in the retreat. I didn't think she was able to tell the difference in the equipment, but **** hit the fan when that fricking HD DVD swoosh came on....

It's funny but I have had several guys ask me why HD football looks better than my HD movies (that are 1080p). People just like bright flashy pictures.

Every once in a while though she betrays her true feelings like when we watched the Troy extended HD DVD last weekend and this scene came up

she literally gasped and then marvelled at how amazing the water looked

Yup, I've had lots of female friends who couldn't care less about it. That's one of the perks about being gay, since it's another guy, you're more than likely going to both love HD! That, and you double your wardrobe. lol
My wife is well aware of HD and if you asked her how I'm sure she'd say it's because I don't shut up about it.
I live close to Chicago so I can get really good OTA HD broadcasts. She watches Greys Anatomy. To this day she would say "it doesnt matter to me cause I dont know the difference"
Hmmm :eek:Who is this?????
Don't worry. I'm positive I don't know you.
David Susilo 09-26-07, 06:03 PM Oh yeah. Have you ever got the "it's too dark," when trying to watch a movie with all the lights off. It drives me insane.
well, to be technical, if it's too loud, you really can't hear anything (you can't discern anything)... and yes, there is something as "too dark" too. Hence the use of bias light.
Johnsteph10 09-26-07, 06:14 PM I wish my wife would notice.
I had to program macros for everything as she couldn't figure out the different remote controls....that was the only part of the home theater she was impressed with.
CPR Jose Ortiz 09-26-07, 06:22 PM My girlfriends loves Heroes on HD. She is not quite done with it yet.
We've watched Dreamgirls, Mallrats, Knocked up and The Bourne Movies together and we are looking forward to Nip/Tuck and Smallville!
(whenever WB sends it!)
sivartk 09-26-07, 08:22 PM none of the above, don't have either (and yes, I'm male....and no not that....not that there's anything wrong with that.)
karlw2000 09-26-07, 08:33 PM Yeah, my wife can. And she needs glasses! My wife doesn't seem to care. Of course she wears glasses, but she never puts them on.
MauneyM 09-26-07, 09:47 PM My wife can definitely see the difference - I think she is more sensitive to PQ than I am (though I am more sensitive to the audio). After watching '300' on HD DVD, we subsequently watched another movie (a chick flick) that is only available on SD DVD. She made some comment about it not being fair to put it so soon after seeing the picture quality in '300'......she was right.
In the same conversation, she made it very clear that if/when we move, the RS-1 is coming with us!
PopcornReady 09-27-07, 12:45 AM My husband can tell the difference but he doesn't always bother to switch to the HD channels on his own (which annoys me no end ... he was watching the Emmy's the other night and I wandered in the room and *gasped* "The Emmy's aren't in HD? WTF?!? And then picked up the remote and switched to the HD feed.").
It's our first anniversary this weekend and last weekend we were pricing / window shopping for a larger LCD -- one of those fancy 120Hz thingies -- but the set cost more than our wedding ...
He also doesn't get jealous when I pop hunky, dreamboat Smallville's Tom Welling into the drive ... and I let him enjoy his Dreamgirls. And we're both waiting for Rocky Horror Picture Show and Wizard of OZ ... anyone think they will be out in time for next Pride?
Timothy Ramzyk 09-27-07, 01:34 AM Yup, I've had lots of female friends who couldn't care less about it. That's one of the perks about being gay, since it's another guy, you're more than likely going to both love HD! That, and you double your wardrobe. lol
I could wear my partners clothes, by why would I when mine are so-much better?:D
Honestly I'm the driving force in home-cinema, I had 8mm which begot, VHS, Laser, 16mm, DVD and now HDM. My partner isn't a owning-movies kind of guy. He's learned to humor my taste in obscure Euro-trash horror from 60's and 70's, taxing non-linear art-house fare, weird for weirdness sake cult films, and sleazy grindhouse garbage along my more accessible tastes. Not to mention the major coin I dump on it all. Actually, come to think of it my XA2 HD DVD player was a present; can't ask for more support than that.;)
MovieSwede 09-27-07, 04:25 AM My wife just asked for a StarWars Marathon -Ep1
Some of us are the lucky ones. ;)
asked my wife last night: she can, but doesn't care. She knows its a big deal to me, but otherwise, she doesn't care. At least she likes the idea of the home theatre...we hate going to the movie theatres because of the cost and the annoying humanity factor. So I've got one thing going for me.
Bob Black 09-27-07, 07:27 AM Mine notices, but doesn't much care.
MEJHarrison 09-27-07, 02:26 PM I believe my wife can see the difference. I know she can.
She simply doesn't care.
WiFi-Spy 09-27-07, 02:32 PM I work swing shift, so my GF ends up watching more HD than me.
Gordon Shumway 09-27-07, 02:41 PM We (wife and I)watch a lot of shows and many are in HD...I have yet to hear her say "wow! that looks so clear/lifelike" etc.....to her TV is just TV..as long as she can see the show it doesn't matter what format it's in.
nineteen70 09-27-07, 03:22 PM my girl notices but she isnt wowed like I am
flinx1241 09-27-07, 03:24 PM It's funny but I have had several guys ask me why HD football looks better than my HD movies (that are 1080p). People just like bright flashy pictures.
I can identify with them. I have the same feeling when watching sports in HD. I think it's because the quality difference between HD sports and regular broadcast sports is so much greater than the difference between an upconverted DVD and HDM (to me, at least).
My wife notices sometimes, but definitely couldn't care less anyway. She's just watching really closely to make sure I don't go out and upgrade all of my DVDs (D&D releases aren't a red flag, though).
DaveKennett 09-27-07, 03:51 PM Yeah! My wife can tell. The TV's too big, the speakers are too big and too loud, and the remote's too complex.

The husband and I are hoping for Something for Everyone with Michael York and Angela Lansbury, the German countryside and the antics of a very busy young man. ;)
But, hey! Roman Polanski and his vampyrs (which CBC used to play late at night) works too. Now THAT would an HD experience!
I am lucky. When we were first dating 13 years ago, she explained to me that those "stupid black bars" were not so stupid. She was happy when I bought a Laserdisc player in 1995 and happily went back to the store to get a bigger TV when we realized the 20" I had would not cut it, then helped me get the 130 pound behemouth up to the second floor of my apartment. She was all for us buying an HDTV in 2001 and soon after she always sought out anything in HD. Within a few months, she was bragging to people every chance she got about how good it looked and has never stopped.
SomethingMore 09-27-07, 04:24 PM My girlfriend notices the difference, but she's not as hardcore about it as I am.
Meaning:
- 99% of the time, I refuse to buy SD DVD unless the source material is SD or worse (see: Inland Empire, 28 Days Later, etc.)
- She, on the other hand, cannot be talked out of buying Hairspray on SD DVD (because of the fancy box set), but she will probably still buy the HD DVD when it comes out next year. She was this close to buying Bridge to Terebithia on SD, but I told her I'd pay for the import HD (no BD player in our apartment yet).
Could you provide a less insulting option for my wife? She does notice the difference, but I'm not surprised. You see, I don't think she's clueless when it comes to tech stuff.

I only ever saw the VHS box at my Ma & PA rental on that one. Any good?
If you want a night of jaw-dropping shock and bewilderment try - Sweet Movie or The Beast (La Bete)
If you want a night of disturbing disbelief try - Salo, Ilsa the Wicked Warden, or Necromantik, Singapore Sling
For a night of semi kinky fun - Venus In Furs, Eugine; The Story of Her Journey Into Perversion, or The Lickerish Quartet
A night of Trippy fun - At Midnight I Possess Your Corpse, Holy Mountain or El Topo

Wow, sounds like a true keeper! :)
joker454 09-27-07, 05:10 PM My wife most definitely notices. She can even tell when a show is shown 'upconverted' instead of HD. She doesn't know it's because it's upconverted, but she'll watch it for a while a bit puzzled, then ask me "why does it look bad, I'm on the HD channel?". We even get Directv's Sunday Ticket Superfan because she can't stand watching NFL in SD anymore. Oh, and she's also hot looking and pays for half of everything, including both plasma tv's and hd dvr's in every room. Yes, sometimes I think I'm the luckiest man alive ;)
As a nice anecdote: my parents gave us a visit last weekend and they asked me whether the big flatscreen is worth its money from PQ point of view (they only know satellite television in standard PAL on their old CRT). I showed an episode from Planet Earth and they were excited. My mother gave me a call today asking which kind of equipment they'd need to get those "high quality" pictures...
Need an option of "Can tell but doesn't really care."
thetman 09-27-07, 07:48 PM my wife is crazy for HD! infact the other night she said " a 65" plasma would be nice (we have a 50" now). loves watching HD movies either on cable or HDDVD. Onlywants to see the widescreen versions of movies as well. Doesn't care how big the speakers are either. So its HD heaven at my house.:D
thetman
scaesare 09-28-07, 09:57 AM She seems to notice SD DVD's, particulry if the transfer is bad and/or lots of EE.
A well mastered DVD looks pretty darn good upscaled on the HD A2, however.
DamageMcRamage 09-28-07, 10:28 AM Just out of curiosity, I wonder how many women we have posting in this section of the forum? Or the whole forum for that matter. I'm sure the men outnumber them, but there has to be quite a few.
ccotenj 09-28-07, 10:32 AM Could you provide a less insulting option for my wife? She does notice the difference, but I'm not surprised. You see, I don't think she's clueless when it comes to tech stuff.
+1... not all women are clueless fools, as much as some men might like to think they are... ;)
my wife wanting one is the reason there is a 150fd in my house right now... she's a nut about video and audio quality... and believe it or not, she can even use the remote controls...
ha ha. This thread made me laugh. It makes me want to tear my hair out but wifey could care less/doesn't notice HD. Worse yet she likes to stretch the 4:3 to fit the screen.
HD-DownUnder 09-28-07, 10:55 AM My wife thinks it's all a waste of money, to her VHS is good enough ;)
Ironic considering the business I'm in.
c.kingsley 09-28-07, 02:18 PM My wife definitely notices. She even comments on some movies that don't look as well as others (Miami Vice). She has also mentioned / asked me about film grain and high res audio!
Iceman184 09-28-07, 02:22 PM my G/F notices but could care less about the difference. i say "see, look how good it looks" all i get is "its still a waste of money" ugghh..
ShagMan 09-28-07, 02:49 PM My wife is accutely aware of PQ and AQ... she's quicker to comment on clarity of audio or something like EE or macroblocking before I'll have a chance to say anything about it.
josephmckinney 09-28-07, 05:49 PM My wifes eyesight must be terrible! She couldn't tell the difference between VHS and an HD DVD. When I ask her, she just shrugs her shoulders and says ok. Oh well, at least she lets me get the toys!!
