bboisvert 09-26-07, 11:05 AM We're about the enter the crucial Q4 season. And I look at your promo site at the movies that are "coming soon" and I only see 16 titles -- half of which are already released (Dragonheart came out in May).
Transformers? Evan? Jack Ryan? Blade Runner? Shrek? Any of the other 50 or so cool titles coming out? Nowhere to be seen...
It seems to me that this is one of the cheapest, easiest advertising tasks there is. You've had a press release about the millions you've spent on TV ads... but can't afford to spend a few thousand hiring a contractor to update your web site? It looks sloppy and sad.
I think you need to either maintain the movie list, or remove it entirely. This half-assed approach is not going to help the cause.
Kris-Co 09-26-07, 11:35 AM Well said, if theres one thing Blu-ray has always beaten HD DVD with, its advertising! Honestly, it is amazing to me we are even still in the game with as much as the HD DVD camp has slacked off with advertising and updating of websites. Take a hint from your competition and start selling your product rather than just putting it on store shelves!
johansoncm 09-26-07, 11:35 AM I'll second that...
Jonto81 09-26-07, 11:39 AM Couldn't agree more, hell if you can't be bothered to do it pass it over to the community and I'll help do it.
Still it's impressive that with HD DVD's lack of advertising that it has not been crushed by the BDA advertising machine

Its been that way since launch
spectator 09-26-07, 12:07 PM As a mitigating factor, despite the availability of the URL on print advertising materials, I suspect few outside of our educated enthusiast demographic are even familiar with
www.thelookandsoundofperfect.com
in the first place. :(

Absolutely... and I've mentioned it before. But this is the worse I think I've ever seen it. I don't think the Coming Soon has ever gotten as low as 16 titles (no scrolling required). The fact that most of them are already released and that all of the major upcoming titles aren't included is just salt in the wound.
Seriously, you have a situation right now where the following is coming in the next 3 months:
Anchorman
Aviator
Battlestar Galactica
Blade Runner
Bourne Ultimatum
Carlito’s Way
Chuck and Larry
Evan Almighty
Evening
Face Off
Harry Potter Collection
Inside Man
Jack Ryan Collection
Kubrick
Mighty Heart
Ocean’s 13
Old School
Pride and Prejudice
Shrek 3
Sopranos
Star Trek
Talk to Me
Transformers
etc. etc. etc.
And here's what people see when they click Coming Soon:

Something's wrong with this picture...
b.greenway 09-26-07, 12:17 PM bboisvert I sent a link to your post to someone at the HDDVD PRMG, hopefully he'll make sure the right person(s) sees it. fwiw I agree, that list has always been a bit stale.
mbw23air 09-26-07, 12:56 PM Great post bboisvert !!

Perhaps not, but I'm recently in the market for an HD-DVD player and when I google it that page is the 2nd link to show up (behind wikipedia) I click the link and get a message that I have to have flash 8 (which I don't) so I can't even see what old movies are listed under "new releases".
wakashizuma 09-26-07, 01:37 PM I like the colors used in the website, but I think they should redesign it so has more info about HD DVD and its advantages.

Cool... assuming that someone in power actually reads this, I suppose I should point out that video that plays when you enter the main site is FANTASTIC. Here's a thread praising it:

The HD DVD folks need to go wider with that video -- and provide it to people in a portable format so we can get it on YouTube, Stage6, etc.
rover2002 09-26-07, 09:24 PM I'm sure Amirm reads this section :)
live4ten 09-26-07, 11:53 PM An edited version of the video on that site would be a great television ad.
You do realise that the 'up side' to this lack of spending on advertising means that we see lower player prices, and more free movies :-)
