not sure if this is even to the right forum to post this....

i bought an HD TV the first week of Sept and moved to Dish from DTV since I did not want to pay $200 to upgrade to the HD DVR that Dish would provide free with a 18 month contract. Here is the short version...

Sat 9/8 - 12 - 5 appointment and they call can cxl, don't have the equipment.

Sun 9/9 - 12- 5 appointment - call at 3 pm and on the way. never show up. i call and they say truck broke down. will dispatch another tech at 5 pm. never shows up. call me at 9 pm to check on tech, i say he never showed.

Thurs 9/13 12-5 appointment - the guy gets there at 4:15, leaves at 10:30 and i'm only getting limited channel. the guy says this is his first superdish install and can't figure it out. But some channels working.

Fri 9/14 - tech coming out at 4 pm and never shows.

I call tech support three different times to try to get it working and they try three different things, none of them working. they are convinced i have a bad reciever. he overnights one, but doesn't ship until tuesday.

Sat 9/15 - they finally show up and fix everything. i am now a happy camper

call back to stop the receiver from coming. they say can't stop an open order even though it has not been shipped.

Wed 9/19 - call Dish, what to do with receiver. they tell me to take it to UPS and do a return to sender at no charge. get there and it was sent to me by fed ex.

Thurs 9/20 - call Dish and explain - they say i was misinformed - take it to fed ex and they will take care of it.

Fri 9/21 - go to Fed Ex store - guy won't take it with out prepay label. I explain that Dish said just return. FedEx won't take it.

Call Dish - oh we are sorry, they should have emailed you a label. sent to my email

Monday 9/24 - Still haven't reciveved email. call dish back and they re-email it. i get it and go to UPS now to ship off receiver that i never needed after three trips.

Later this evening I notice that i am losing satellite connection. it is late after MNF, it is supposed to rain and thought maybe it was cloudy.

Tuesday 9/25 - same issue in the morning and when i get back from work. check a few overnight recordings and most of them were partials due to signal loss. Call tech support, they walk me through a battery of tests then say a tech needs to come out. Schedule me for Oct 2nd. I don't have a signal more than i have it.

What would you do. I was giving my 1st month free after talking to their executive resolutions department. Is there a time frame to cancel this 18 month contract with out penalty. I ask them and they say no. But I find that hard to believe. I want my DTV back.

Any suggestions?

Switch back to D* or cable. Dish should let you out if you put a a fuss. And sound like you have a lot to fuzz about.
The signal loss sound like a bad cable or loose dish. If the cables outside are getting water in them it would cause issue like lost signal off and on. Or a loose dish could be slightly off now..

The problom is a lot of the dish employers have high turnover (both dish and D*). Causeing poor installs. Yes theirs a lot of good installers out their but thers also a many bad ones.

Find out who the install company was and make sure they do not ever come out again. Call and tell Dish that you want a different install company or they can cancel the contract.

Good luck.

i did this and they sent the same people out.

as of now. the hd dvr box is up and running fine, no service on the other two.

i have been so p!ssed over this whole thing, but at this time i'm really just using the one tv. i'm giving them one my chance, he wants to bring out a new switch, but needs to get it from dish.

i hope this does the trick, then i will see if there are any other adjustments.

dtv was almost a month out for a install date. we have charter here, and nothing but horror stories. but i guess it can't get any worse.
