I need some advice. I have a large projection room. The projector is hosted in a separate cabinet. Throw length is 7.5m (ca. 23 ft).
For the past 5 years I have had a Sony VW12-HT with a long-throw lens. That is OK, but (a) it is quite dim, and (b) for architectural reasons, the projector is offset laterally by ca. 50cm, leading to an (admittedly slight, but still unnerving) trapezoidal aberration.
Therefore, I need advice for buying a new projector. The specs would be as follows:
7.5m throw
optical horizontal lens-shift
very bright. 1000 lumens would be on the low side. I tested a Qualia004 two years ago, and the light output was great. Other things about it were less great though.
1080p
should ideally exhaust air to the back (due to the cabinet). Otherwise I would have to convey hot air to an exhaust tube, which may lead to all sorts of trouble (e.g. aerodynamic resistance incompatible with fan specs).
budget: up to 20K. I thought of the Titan 250 HD, but that's much more expensive than that - and I quite honestly haven't understood why.
I would be exceedingly grateful for any advice.

The DVision 1080p might work for your set up. It has two bulbs so it should be plenty bright. Plus I think it fits in at your price though can't remember. I have the same set up issues as you do if I wanted to relocate my projector out of my room and this was the only projector I could find that worked. The other projector that might work though I doubt is will be bright enough is the JVC.

It's $25K MSRP.The Sim2 C3X 1080p with long throw lens I think fits the bill too. But no ANSI lumens spec has been announced yet. Its $30000 MSRP. But MSRP is now meaningless for SIM2.

Save a bunch and get the new panny ae2000,It will have 1500 lumes and have huge lens shift great colors and the new d7 panels for $3k.Why throw money down a toilet.Use it on sound.BOB
Interesting proposition. The AE2000 appears to throw an image of 120" (304 cm) from a distance of 24 ft (731 cm). This is pretty much at the upper limit of what the physical constraints of my room allow for - but it might (barely) do! My screen is 300 cm (width, not diagonal), and the throw will be ca. 740 cm (plus/minus 3cm).
But what are the drawbacks of the panny AE2000? I agree that there's no point is spending 20K$ if you can get an equivalent setup for 3K$ - but I somehow find it difficult to believe that it will be equivalent. On the other hand, technology has really revolutionized projection, and therefore you may well be right.
I would appreciate more opinions on this projector. The brightness is indeed appealing. When screening Projectorcentral for bright 1080p machines, it would appear that if you want to go for 2000 lumens you have to shell out a huge amount of money...

The lumens are 1000-2500 iris dependant. It was in the releases.

Really depends how picky you are. Some on these forums spend more time picken their FP apart than watching movies and injoying them.My friend who could have bought any fp he wanted because he is quite weathly decided on the ax100.He wanted a bright fp that could do a long throw and had lens shift and great colors.I took him to see a pearl a mit' optoma' and he like the ax100 the best.He is very happy with it.He is the type of guy who does not have to have the most expensive or newest fab to be happy.Really it is amazing what cheaper fp can do now.Myself I will not upgrade to a 1080p intill they reach 2000lumes as my ax100 does.Myself to me FP or like speakers.Once you get to a certain level their is not really that much difference,Except for those who can't injoy a movie because they spend more time looking at the pic.It can become a sickness,Many here have it.I have not had one person come into my theather and not go WOW,99% of average people will not be able to see the difference between a $2k fp and a $20k fp.Reviews of the Panny ae2000 and the new Epson with d7 panels should be coming out soon. One thing my ax100 does better than the JVC RS1 besides brightness is the colors are correct at least.BOB
why is MSRP now meaningless for SIM2?

Smoothscreen plagues the AE2000 too from what i read.
I am also mad that Mitsu decided to keep the first gen Cine2Fine
panels for the HC6000 instead of D7s.
I am keeping my fingers crossed for the Epson TW2000, but i doubt
that its optics and VP can hold a candle to Mitsu's quality.

I would also like to know this.
