Hey guys, first time poster here, go easy on me.

I'm currently looking for a solution to record video from a computer (DVI out) into a portable PVR to then take that footage and edit it elsewhere. I'm cutting some video game trailers and I'm looking for a solution to obtain footage from a "gaming" machine onto this portable PVR.

I know there are software solutions out there, but they tend to kill the performance to a point where it isn't feasable to use in editing.

Anyone have some ideas? Thanks a ton.

What will you be using to edit the video later? If it's another PC, then simply buy an external hard drive. Copy all your work to it, then take the hard drive with you to where you will be editing it.

If you are looking for something with video in/outputs, then an old series 2 TIVO will record anything coming into it's Svideo or composite inputs, although not automatically. Simply do a manual record once the source material is playing and seen via the TIVO.
