Hi peeps,
New to this site and have been toying with the idea for a home theatre for a while. First up - thanks to everyone for their vast knowledge in this field - i must say the finished product that you guys produce is amazing!
Here's the thing - I'm currently in the planning and designing phase of my "little project" and was open to any ideas or suggestions you all may have.
The room dimensions are 22' x 22' x 10' ( yeah i know square room ) and is constructed out of brick (all exposed).
There is only 1 door way (towards 1 side of the wall) and a window as well (in the middle of the wall), both on the same wall.
Floor is solid concrete.
What i would like is any suggestions anyone may have on layout and design - i dont mind having to build a room in a room or to shorten the room in any way for acoustic purposes.
So basically i have a blank canvas and need some suggestions on which way to go:D

How about a few pics of the space to see what you have over head. Hvac Duct work & beams have a way of getting in the way of some cool ideas

Cant get inside at present to take any photos ( too much junk in storage!) and camera only took photos of alot of boxes! But peering through, there is no drywall/gyprock/plaster (depending where you come from;)) so all i can see is the actual roof colorbond (steel?) and the supports for the roofing - and also the roof is angled slightly for rain water/guttering.
No ducts at all anywhere - completely blank canvas!!
The room is located in my backyard separated from the house, but want to make sure not much sound leaks out due to neighbors being fairly close.
Behind this room is another storage room 22' x 10'.
On the other side is my workshop which is 22' x 15' and in front of that is the garage which is also 22' x 22'.
Heck the outside areas are almost as big as my house:eek::eek: - maybe i should live out there!!
I can choose either the 22' x 22' storage area or the 22' x 15' workshop. The garage is used for the cars and the Storage shed at the end is going to be used for storage and gardening equipment.

Probably room within a room construction will be your best bet including adding decoupled ceiling joists because of that steel roof.

I suspect a big challenge will be HVAC. What's your weather like?

Well i'm in Melbourne Australia, so we don't get freezing cold temperatures and during the summer it is quite hot and dry.
Temp in winter rarely goes below 39 deg F (4 deg C) at night and summer temp rarely goes beyond 104 deg F (40 deg C).
I was thinking of room within a room as my best option, being a square room any suggestions on what size would be best to maximize space - maybe divide room?!?

Hi vman000,

I'm jealous as. I'm in Melbourne and all I wanted when buying a house was a double garage which would be unreal to convert to HT.

Instead I'll be using my family room but atleast my wife is being supportive.

Colorbond roofing. Mate you'll need to insulate massively! In summer my
colorbond 'shed' regularly gets 10-20deg above outside temps. Colorbond roofs really capture heat!!!

So room within a roof is good. You might want to consider heating/cooling as well. Maybe a split system down the track.

Having a clean slate presents you a lot of options especially in that size.

Good luck with your venture!

Cheers
Antony
