I am finishing my basement and am looking at putting in a home theater. I have visited a local HT store that specializes in this stuff, they have recommended the following:

Bravia VPL-AW15 10' away from the screen
DragonFly 84" screen
Yahama RX-V461
..... plus speakers ....

The ceiling will be 7'6" tall.

I am concerned at that a person will interfere with the projector image when playing the WII. Normally I would not be concerned but this is my first projector and want to make sure I am doing the right thing. Normally I would do a bunch of research but the HT store has 0% interest for the first 12 months. I had planed on just putting it on my credit card (the original basement budget did not include the projector) and paying it off in the next 12 months; however, 0% sounds better than the 12% from the credit card company. The problem is the 0% interest ends Saturday so I have to make a choice very soon.

I am also concerned that people will be setting too close to the screen, the couch will be 10' away.

Please advise if the above projector is a good choice based on my situation.

Thank you,
Jamie

I wouldn't be rushed just because of the financing offer. Those sort of things will get repeated, especially as Christmas approaches. You are much better off doing a bunch of reading here and truly understanding what your needs are and then put together a solid implementation plan.

Agreed - the financing deal will return. And to really get full enjoyment out of an HT you should make sure you understand exactly what you want and how to achieve it first.

These forums are full of great information and expert analysis. I would slow down and take advantage of this amazing place.

However there is now the problem of the family getting excited about the big screen. I think I will have to do a lot of reading and thinking tonight.

My family is excited about a big screen as well. I spent a year learning and still have at least a year of building. It's all relative.

I would be worried that if you rush it, you will regret the purchase later. For example, unless you play behind the projector location, you will block the image when playing wii. An 88" inch screen will seem small for 2.35:1 content. etc. etc.

Anyway, do what you need to do. You asked for input and we're happy to provide. :)

Do more research and do not rush into anything. Ask lots of questions on the forum base. And yes the deals will always come later as well.
