View Full Version : Is a G90 more bright then a 9500LC Ultra
Jim Parys 09-28-07, 02:36 PM I asked this under my other thread, but did not get a response so I thought i would ask under a new title as I did shift off the org topic.
I have heard, can't remember where, that a G90 is more bright then a Vision One (9500LC Ultra). I have checked the specs on Curts website and they both say 1300 lunens.
Is a G90 brighter or ?
thx,
Jim
mark haflich 09-28-07, 06:55 PM Actually, I think its dumber.
ajantin 09-28-07, 08:23 PM Jim, I've owned/used both as my primary pj and regardless of specs, yes, the G90 looks much brighter. Running my G90 now on a 110" wide torus @ 50 brightness, 60 contrast settings and more than enough punch.
Gino AUS 09-28-07, 09:31 PM Perhaps it might be that the G90 has better stock focus (lugs, magnetics, lenses), and can be driven harder than a stock 9500LC.
the g90 is suppose to be brighter due to the lighter green c element used by sony. but this is one of the few things you can do to a g90 that will correct color balance.

Gino,
You hit the nail on the head and we found that with the KD22-22 focus yokes on the 9500 it became brighter. There is a more even distribution of the energy onver a line or dot.

Thanks for confirming Terry, this is exactly what I was hoping for.
mp20748 09-29-07, 08:26 PM Oh yeah, that shocked me as well when I saw the boost in brightness after installing those yokes. I remember right after getting a call from Galen and asking him if he had experienced the same thing, he confirmed it as well. I had also asked Terry if he could explain it. It freaked me out!
Tim in Phoenix 09-29-07, 08:55 PM Uhhh
So if one Defocuses Blue on almost any CRT projector and that is brighter on blue, how does the KD22 yoke achieve brighter with an allegedly tighter spot size?
Phil Smith 09-29-07, 09:06 PM That's a good point!
Hi,
The stock marquee focus coils give a line which has a very bright center
surrounded by region of defocused "fuzz", and as the contrast is increased,
the "fuzz" area increases very significantly.
With the 1292 yokes installed, the lines are much more uniform across their
width, in other words - the beam energy is more evenly distributed, which
means that more phosphor is being used effectively, which leads to greater
output, even with a smaller overall width.
One thing that is good to remember, is that the phosphors do not have a
linear response to beam energy - in other words, they will saturate past a
certain energy input and the output cannot track the input. When the
energy is distributed more evenly, more phosphor molecules can contribute
within their linear range.
It is pretty darn amazing to see tight even lines at contrast settings of 80 or
90 on a Marquee. Personally I am running contrast lower than before,
and still getting a better picture. One thing that may be possible with
the 1292 yokes is a more aggressive use of the contrast modulation feature.
With the stock yokes too much contrast increase makes the picture "bloom"
or just go out of focus, but now the settings can be increased significantly,
and it just gets brighter....I have been experimenting with a DaLite
Cinemavision screen, which looks good but does tend to colorshift and
hotspot with a 9" PJ, but with the new yokes I have been able to
compensate for that very nicely, with no loss of edge/corner focus.
This may be good news for the blenders out there...hohoho!
Cheers,
Galen
Jim Parys 09-30-07, 02:24 AM So does that mean if I can get the yokes from a 1292 or G90 I will be able to get a brighter picture and at the same time tighter focus? I have a lead on some 10F lens, but if the yokes help also does anyone know where I can get a set of them also?
Gino AUS 09-30-07, 04:11 AM Good luck finding them, they are in high demand lately for the above mentioned reasons
Jim,
Not all 10F lenses are equal, tests here have confirmed that
an older set from a 1292 were not significant improvement
over a 2002 model year set of HD10-GT17's. So, as someone said,
newer is better. Even the 10F's from a G90 weren't all that
big an improvement over this set of GT17's, and all of that
was edge/corner - they are all the same in the middle.
The HFQ900's however are different....
