Please note…I posted in the Blu-Ray forum as well, but thought some additional input wouldn’t hurt…..Quick question…..I have a Samsung HD LCD, put Hitman: Blood money for the PS2 in my PS3 last night….asked me whether I wanted it played at NTSC or 480P…which one should I select and why?

Thanks!

480p is better quality, but you'll need a component cable (cable with 3 connectors:red, green, blue). If you don't have this cable, stick to NTSC, which i am assuming is for the standard composite cable (yellow video connector) that the PS2 comes with.

I assuming you'd be using a HDMI cable for your PS3, which can also pass 480p no problems. The PS3 does a pretty good job of upscaling and deinterlacing, when you have a PS2 game in 480p it doesn't upscale via the PS3, in some cases leaving it in NTSC(480i) can result in a better picture.

God of War comes to mind, but try both see which one you like better yourself.

I will confirm that 480p will be better than NTSC (480i) as long as your TV will support it.

If you have an older analog TV, then it may not be able to display 480p. One way to check, is that if you have COMPONENT connectors on the back of the TV. Component uses RED, GREEN, BLUE for video, instead of just YELLOW, which is COMPOSITE.

If you have an HDTV, then you should have no problems displaying 480p.

Do all tv's with component in display 480p? I had a CRT set with component in several years back, but I wasn't aware of it displaying 480p(though thats not something I would have known at the time). My brothers using it now, so I might have to try a progressive scan dvd player to check it out.

No, having component input doesn't automatically mean it has progressive scan support.
