I have previously posted on the AV Forum regarding this problem and received some useful feedback. However, since making my original inquiry I have narrowed the problem down somewhat. It does, however, persist. In a nutshell here is the problem.
After learning through the AV Forum that my D50 would display HDTV in 1080i, contrary to what my dealer had told me, I bought a HD-XA2 and connected it using the component inputs/outputs. When I would watch an HD movie, with the player setup for 1080i, I would get periodic video dropouts when the projector would indicate " no input on input A". These dropouts, for the most part, would last only a second or two and then the picture would return. In trying to resolve this problem I bought new component cables since the ones I had been using were sort of jerry rigged. After changing those cables the problem occurred less often but remained.
After that I added a Samsung BD-1400 for Bluray. Since getting that unit, and installing the first FW upgrade, I have watched a couple of BD movies to see if this problem would occur on that player as well. Sure enough it did. In playing around with the 1400 I did however make an interesting discovery. I discovered that the video dropouts would occur at specific points on the disc and that it was reproducible almost every time. 9 out of 10 times I could run the movie back to the same spot and voila a video dropout would occur. I then discovered that if I changed the resolution to 720p the dropouts would stop.
Since these dropouts are reproducible at specific points on the DVD its seems unlikely to me that the D50 is the problem. However, since I know very little about this area I certainly could be wrong. It is also possible that I have a setting wrong on the D50 or elsewhere. I would sure like to be able to enjoy my recently discovered ability to display High Def on this D50 but I would enjoy it more without these video dropouts. Can anyone help me solve this rather bizarre problem?
