What is the currently recommended DVD recorder that can also be region hacked? I don't care about having an HD or ATSC tuner, just need the ability to play back PAL on NTSC and NTSC on PAL and play any region disc in addition to recording.
What models can do this? What are the pros and cons of each. I've tried search and mainly only found models, I can no longer find.
any help, is appreciated.
I've done pretty extensive searches for RECORDERS that can be hacked for region free. Found many PLAYERS, but no common, current RECORDERS available in the U.S. There are some online "specialty" shops that modify Pioneer units for "international" use...220-electronics.com comes to mind.
Have any idea what recorder they are selling on 22-electronics? they have the same model as this place, http://www.regioncodefreedvd.com/intrecorder.html
Simply says:
Multi system DVD PLAYER AND RECORDER
Code & Region Free
BUILT IN PAL<-> NTSC CONVERTER
PAL AND NTSC RECORDING
100-220 VOLTS FOR WORLD WIDE USE
PLAY ANY REGION DVD ON ANY TV GUARANTEED
Check out http://www.220-electronics.com
I looked there, they both appear to have the same model, but do not list who makes it or what the model number is.
Any idea whothe manufacturer is of the $169 reorder they have is?

Specs say "Based on Philips DVD+R" and the SLP rec mode is 6 hours, so it's some mfgr like Funai who is using (or copying) Philips technology. When they say "Elite" model, that would be either Pioneer or a rip-off of the Pioneer Elite line of players/recorders.
You'd have to call them to get more info.

The recorder will play back whatever you record. Region coding is a playback issue for pre-recorded discs only, and there are plenty of region free (or hackable) DVD players that sell for about $50 or less, so why worry about it on a recorder?
I'd just like to be able to go the one box route if possible.
